have room only reservation..what do i say to cro to ask for discounts

ok here is my problem

i have a room only reservation at the poly at rack rate for oct 13-20, now i know they are getting quite full so i don't want to touch this reservation.

So when i call cro(Or wdtc) what do i say to see if i can get the general public package code applied to that reservation without altering that reservation just in case.

Do i just ask them to check availability as a new reservation and if and when that happens have them book it and then cancel the room only reservation. Or is there a way to just check for code availability for that existing reservation and then have it applied if there.

I am a little confused on this and really don't want them to alter or play with the room only reservation until they are sure, just in case they delete it and then if there is no codes applicable then not be able to get the room only back.

Am i making any sense? Can anyone answer my question?

I would call CRO, have them pull up your reservation. Then see if anything is cheaper. They won't cancel it , but change it if there is a lower rate.

I did this yesterday for out 12/8-12/16 trip. I had a room only with the AAA discount. I called and said I wanted to change it to a package using the new general code (zqg).

They will not change your old ressie until the can confirm the new ressie.

Also just a side note, if they tell you they can not apply it our room only ressie (that there are not more discounts left), they can!

As I said, I called yesterday to apply the code to my room only CBR preferred location reservation. The CM today me he only had standard rooms at the new discount. I explained that I HAVE a preferred room already I just want to apply the new rate, he told me that it could not be done.

I hung up and called back. I got a new CM who told me the same thing about only having standard rooms left. Again I explained but I have the preferred room. It is not like I am looking for a new room, I just want an adjusted rate on my existing room. He said he could call guest services take care of it.

Long story short, they were able to give me the new rate on my old room. I just had to change to a package. They book the new package, then cancel your old room only reservation so you need to give a new deposit.
