Have I waited long enough?

I wanted to add on at BLT but felt that additional incentives were on the way. My question to all is, "Do you think I have I waited long enough now that matching developers points have officially been added to sweeten the pot in addition to the $5.00 per point discount, or will DVC have to do more to get us waiters to buy?" :confused3

I am wondering the same thing. I said if there were DP I would bite but I was also hoping for a $500 visa or more disney reward dollars through my visa. I know I sound stingy but I am afraid I will buy in now and in January when we do the tour the incentives will be better.

I recommend waiting. If Disney has already increased the incentives, sales are down now even though BLT just recently went up for purchase. The first few months of the year are always slow for sales because people have spent all of their money during Christmas. I did an SSR add on this past January during Martin Luther King weekend and received a tremendous amount of incentives. We purchased 160 points: received 160 free points from the previous use year, 160 points for the current year, received 160 Developer Points to use at ANY resort, no closing costs, and $10 per point discount. Our points totaled a whopping 480 even though we purchased 160. We jumped on the offer immediately. And by the way, we burned every single one of those 480 points!

:confused3 I am not seeing the need to rush just yet... $5 off per point is pretty measley IMO. The new developer point incentive is nice and sweetens the pot...but you still can't use your BLT points anywhere until they open the booking on what? March 1? I don't know if the incentives will get better or not...but I think the holiday season will tell a lot about the economy and how people are REALLY spending. Holding off awhile MIGHT not hurt...DVC might reconsider offering something better. I think that this new developer point incentive will be around for a little while - it JUST started today. I'm sure they're hoping to get a rush of people who were waiting for something like this. Once the initial rush for this incentive dies down they might be a little more generous later.:confused3 It's kinda like the high prices that DCL charges...as long as people PAY them they can get by doing it. If people would make a statement about them charging too much by NOT booking and boycott a little then maybe they'd re-think their prices.

(Now, if you're anxious to plan a trip to SSR then go for it!!)

Next time DVC opens a new resort, I will need a guarantee of this type, "We promise that if anyone buys these points at a lower price within the first year, those buying during the members only early purchase period will get the difference refunded to them." :thumbsup2

I like that idea. :)

Good in concept, but if you think "deals" are stingy now, they'll get worst because they'll need to factor in not just future loss of a deal, but past as well.

Also, price and additional "freebies" are usually looked at as two different items. Even stores that offer price guarantees, don't honor "extras" given away, like free financing for X period, free cables, set-up, etc. So it would probably mean that if they gave a free gift card away, it really didn't mean they adjusted their price, just they gave away something free.

We were doing the same thing - we took the bait today! :lmao: :cool1:

We were going to buy anyway, and figured this is a decent deal (would have gone to WDW paying cash this April, so now that's covered) so we took it. My guide did say that they will be raising the minimum buy in at BLT to 200 points soon, so just factor that in as a possiblility. There's definitely a chance they'll do a better deal, but I felt like I was getting enough now not to kick myself if they end up doing a gift card or something else later - Oh, and my DH is very impatient, so it was the right time for us!

I'm sure that's just for new contracts. Add-ons would probably not be affected...

Sounds like since you already had a trip planned it was a good move for you to get it covered with your developers points. Buying just to buy and to be able to say "I bought BLT" is what I have a problem with right now...:confused3 OR maybe I'm just bitter 'cuz I can't buy right now!:rotfl: I suppose at least with developers points you can plan a trip even tho it's not to BLT...... Hummm... Yep. I'm just bitter.:rotfl2:

Okay I caved yesterday and bought in. 160 points at BLT broken into smaller contracts. I am glad I did now that I have learned they are not allowing add-ons under 100 points after Jan. 15th, 2009. We were going to wait and buy in on our trip the week of Jan 17th, 2009. I must say I would have been upset if I had just missed geting to break up my contract.

My DH wants to wait, but I didn't hear about no add-ons under 100 points. Why would they do that? Now I might not even be able to buy because we only want 56 points (two nights worth) since two days in the MK area is enough for us. Can you point me in the direction of that announcement? I guess we can always wait for a resale. What a bummer! Not only does he want to wait, he really is not all that interested, but I was able to talk him into the 56 points. We thought we'd buy on our Feb trip. In this economy, does it make sense to make it more difficult to buy BLT? So annoying!

 Is that for ALL resorts or just BLT??:confused3 I sure wish DVC would communicate this kind of crap to its members via REAL mailings and not via rumor on the DISboards.

If we ever were to do an addd-on it would surely be for less than 100 points so now I'm a little ticked about this prospect. Guess I'll be emailing my guide for the low down........................:rolleyes1

It's only BLT and they DID communicate it to members. I'm not even a BLT member and I got the piece in the mail last week.

To the people holding out for more incentives - you're waiting for nothing. DVC is not going to offer more incentives on the newest resort they're selling - not when they're increasing the price on the next-to-the-newest and have just said as of January 15th you can't even buy BLT for less than 100 points (existing members). That tells me sales are still at least as strong as Disney wants. I don't see that changing.

Well, I guess some members must be on a priority mailing list as we have received nothing from them... But I shouldn't be surprised. It took us at least 2 weeks longer to receive the initial BLT mailer than it took for some to receive it... I think they should get their act together on these mailings and time them so that we all get them at least within a day or two of each other.

But at least the minimum add-on is not going up at AKV...

Hopefully they will not raise add-on minimum at other resorts :scared1: ....

really like having that option of adding on as little as 25 points.

Makes me wonder though if in the near future 100 pt add-on will be minimum
across the board  .
