So I take my dd10 and 3 of her friends to see the new Hilary Duff movie "A Cinderella Story" yesterday. During the previews we get the standard "This preview has been judged appropriate for all ages." Then they proceed to show a trailer for the movie "Little Black Book" that hasn't even been assigned a rating yet. They showed the main character in stirrups at the gynecologist, had several characters say "sex" in a row (at least 5 times), and talked about french kissing.
Now, I was sitting behind the girls and saw them sqwirming. I've had the puberty talk with my dd and I know one other has gotten a good education on the whole thing too because her mom's an OB/GYN. But even at that I don't think she knew about the stirrups!!
So do you think that is an appropriate trailer to show at a movie geared toward the Hilary Duff fans of 8-14 years old?
ann

See update further down.

Nope, I don't think it's an appropriate trailer.

Absolutely not...another reason why I wait until movies come out on DVD before we watch them.

would not think that would be appropriate either:)

I'd like to know who decided this. Obviously it's not anyone who has kids  . I agree with Big V and would call the theatre to complain.

It said it was approved by the "Motion Pictures Association of America" or something. Anybody got their number?;)

WAIT! I just googled it and got a phone number. I'll be back...

I would call the theatre and talk to the manager and explain to them what you thought was inappropriate and let them know if it happens again you will not be returning to THEIR theatre and I'm sure they will get in touch with the right people!

Call the theater an speak to the manager. I worked at a theater in high school and college and who ever was building the movies decided what trailers to put on. Most of the time they had never heard of the movie for the trailer.

Call the manager.

IF you are a prude than so am I!!! But I think maybe the movie assn needs more prudes.:earseek:

I guess I am too. I thought some of the material in the movie Mean Girls was way too suggestive to be in a PG-13 movie.

So I called the Motion Picture Association of America. I was nice and the lady I talked to was too. I just said what parts I thought were inappropriate and she said I was the 2nd complaint and that's a BIG deal to hear 2 complaints. She said they'll relay the info to Sony Pictures and she asked for my name and phone number so the marketing department can call me for the "specifics."
I think I'll call the theater too and ask them to substitute something else.

Guess I've slipped over the edge being a prude.....many television commercials, I feel, are no longer appropriate for young children to view. I don't have small children in my home, but during some recent commercials, I wondered if people have difficulty trying to answer awkward questions from their children.

Speaking from a Theater Managers experience, do call and talk to the manager but realize that sometimes, the movies come with a trailer package that the Production companies require the print to have. Sometimes it really is out of the managers hands, but *most* of the time the trailers are put together by the Projection staff. They usually go by whatever ratings are on the movie that is playing. If Little Black Book was PG-13, it should have no business being on A Cinderella Story if A Cinderella Story is PG.

If it was a projection error, insist that they remove that trailer. If you get no where with the management, go to the district management level. Someone WILL do something there, I guarantee it!!!

A Cinderella Story is PG and Little Black Book is PG-13. I would definately call and complain to the management!

Count me with the prudes. My DD is 13 & would find that "too much" as well. It's not as if you can "change the channel" or "mute the sound" like you can on TV when objectionable commercials come on.

I have to admit that I don't get how Herbal Essence ever got those commercials past the censors. DD & I both scramble to find the remote what they come on....unfortunately, we've seen them & can't get it out of our heads once it starts. I hate that thing!

I'm not terribly surprised that the MPAA thought that 2 complaints was a BIG deal....most people don't bother to find out how to complain. Good job bananiem! :)

Yeah I think that is a bit much for ALL ages.

I think thats the movie that a girl I went to high schoo with is in. We have a reunion in a few weeks, maybe I should mention it to her, LOL! ;)

No, it is not appropriate. You are definitely not a prude, and it sounds as though the movie association folks don't get very many complaints. Good for you. I get embarrassed at some of the ads on tv, let alone the movie trailers.:o

I'm a prude too, I suppose. Think it's incredibly inappropriate for that movie.

Good for you for calling!!!!!
