I was thinking about this the other day. Has Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon *ever* added a slide since their openings?

I love the water parks, but it seems like Disney feels for some reason they're exempt from expanding the waterparks. This bugs me. I mean there haven't even been RUMORS for anything new. Meanwhile, a few miles away Wet-N-Wild (while not as pretty) continues to add new and interesting slides every year or two.

Not that I can remember. At least not in the last 10 years. I guess they don't feel the water parks need to be expanded because they do quite well whether they are or not. They do add little details during rehabs (such as one year, they added Ice Gator's house in Cross Country Creek where he sneezes on you), but no major slides.

I don't think it's Disney's intent to build more thrill slides in TL or BB, because they really don't have to. BB already fills to capacity on most hot days and TL takes the overflow. In fact, there was so many people enjoying the water parks, that Disney considered building another one, but haven't heard much on that since 9/11. Since both parks are included in most passes and those that live in Orlando have AP's or even water park AP's, both parks enjoy guests from WDW and Orlando/Kissimmee (who use it as their beach, since they are 50 miles from the real one). They are conveniently located and accessible through internal transportation as well. TL & BB are also places that are considered a supplement to the whole trip, rather than a full day's entertainment. Somewhere to take the kids that is a little more exciting than just the resort pool.

I'll venture to say that Wet and Wild has a lot more guests that pay the regular admission price and consider it more to be a thrill park, but in doing so, want to have enough to do for a whole day. They are also at the disadvantage that they are not within a complex and so getting there is something that people have to plan to go and then drive there separately from other entertainment venues. For instance, it's quite a hike from WDW to Wet and Wild. Of course it's a shorter distance from Universal, but still quite a hassle. So it attracts new people and day planners by putting in new attractions. Nowadays of course WnW is bundled with passes for Sea World and Universal Orlando, but still have that problem of location. It's also not shady at all, so in the summer you have to have much more water attractions than BB & TL to keep people from dying of the heat. Thus getting repeat business hinges on new attractions, where TL & BB doesn't.

There is just two different marketing philosophies. WnW considers themselves a thrill water park. Disney considers TL to be a place to relax and BB a place that covers both fairly well.

There was a rumor recently that was reported on a number of sites, that Disney was going to make additions to TL including a Master Blaster water coaster.

BB added downhill double dipper rides a few years after it oppened there are rumored plans for more slides or rides at TL but still waiting past the shark area

Construction is expected to begin this summer on Typhoon Lagoon's expansion project. The project will open up the space behind Out of the Way Cay and will include at least one major attraction. It will be a modified version of the Master Blaster Slide.

as we dont get much chance to go to a lot of water parks over hear (we get more rain that the water in the parks)wat is the master blaster type of ride

It is a water coaster.

You ride in a two man raft, one in front of the other. You start at the top of a slide and head down.

The raft has baffles underneath that are able to catch water. So after going down a bit you hit a point where there are water jets forcing water up hill. The baffles on the raft catch the water and your raft is pushed up hill, you crest the hill and start going down again.

So it is like a coaster in that you are going up and down hills, but it is all on water. It's a lot of fun, and with the right theming could be really great.

Here is a link to some photos from the master blaster at Schlitterbahn in Texas, home of the first Master Blaster

Wasn't there also a rumor that TL was going to get a Water Roller Coaster like the one in Hershey, PA?

Not like the one at Hershey, the one at schlitterbahn. The master blaster type attraction.

I sit corrected, since I'm not standing while I type... :)

That's good and bad news IMO. I think it will balance out the water parks and give BB a much needed break in the summer, but on the other hand, to me TL has always seemed like a more relaxing place that wasn't full of the wild teenagers and such. I guess we'll just have to see.

But what do I know? :) Sounds like a cool ride though and I have seen pics of the Master Blaster. It is quite the contraption.

I remember when they added the slide at BB, where you are timed. They also removed the mogul type area, where you sort of bounced around, near the tween area. (It is shown quite prominently on the Beach Party at WDW video).

When will that new attraction at TL be up and running? 2005?

do ther timers ever work at BB doubble dippers only worked when first oppened

Hi, reading this section, and seeing you have knowledge on Disney's water parks, I am REALLY REALLY hoping someone knows when they plan to close each water park this year.

We are going in November, and I am scared TL will be closed then, as my son adores the place, far more than BB.

HELP PLEASE !!!!!!!!!

wondering now if I should have started a new topic with this??????????????????????????????

hope someone sees it:wave2: :(

Typically Typhoon is closed from approx late October to early January and Blizzard is closed early January to late March. However they switched times this past year so anything is possible. There will be one water park open during your trip.

now I'm confused, wondering whether to bring our holiday forward to October ???

thanks for replies.
