to WDW. We have an 8 foot tent trailer that we love to camp in but I was wondering if anyone has pulled their's all the way to Walt Disney world? If so about , how far of a drive did you have?We may decide to do this in a couple of years. What is gas like and did you guys feel it was worth it. All pros and cons appreciated. When do you reccomend camping (time of year) Thanks Kathy

We had a 10 foot box when we lived in Maryland and made the trip every year, usually early December or Early January. We always avoided the holiday pricing season. We usually drove to South carolina then in to FWo on day two.

Now that we are in Georgia we have traded up to a 14' pop up and still go to FW. The only real difference is we drive to Ocala day one then into FW early on day two.

I think it is well worth it to have our own "home" with us rather than a motel room.

We towed a pop up from Pennsylvania (Philadelphia suburb) to FW twice. The first time we hit the gas prices at their lowest. In fact we found gas for under a dollar just before the Florida/Georgia border. We even video taped the sign. The next year it was a little higher. I honestly dont remember how much gas we used. It was about 1200 miles. We did the trip in three days. We stopped at families home for night right at VA & NC border and then spent the night in Jacksonville one year and St. Augustine the next. THen it was an easy trip in the morning and we had time to stop for groceries and be in our campsite by lunch time. I absolutely love road trips and spending the time with my family. Both our camping trips were in the fall. The first one was end of October, beginning of November and the weather was delightful. Warm in the daytime and cool at night. THe next year we went end of September beginning of October. Weather was rather warm and humid. However there were no crowds at all. I dont think we waited more than 10 minutes for anything. I think the longest lines were for character autographs. We litterally got off tower of terror, rocking rollercoaster and space mountain and got right back on with no wait at all. Our October trip had a few more lines but still overall i dont think we ever waited more than 30 minutes then.

We also pulled from MD and stopped at the end of SC. We like to stop to give the kids a chance to play and swim, after all it is vacation. We try to store some stuff in our van, so when we stopped we did not have to move lots of stuff to get it ready to pop up to sleep. We ate in the camper that night and it helps save money when you can do that. Do you have AC? We have done Disney in the summer with No AC in the pop up and we had fans and we were okay we were so exhausted it didn't matter. You do spend more for gas towing a camper, I found VA and SC to be cheaper with gas than NC or MD. But if you eat enough meals in your camper, and think would you need one hotel room or two for your family? Plus it is your own stuff around you. One thing you will want to make sure your pop up is still waterproof, we had an older canvas one and we waterproofed it again, because Disney does get lots of rain certain times of the year. So you might want to check that first. Because that could decide it for you. Hope these suggestions help.

We pull our pop up from Wisconsin. Of course you're going to spend more on gas, but for us it is still cheaper. For six to fly it is $$$. We have done it many times. We drive down usually to just north of Atlanta and stay in a hotel for the night. Let the kids swim and burn off energy. Dad usually eats and then goes for a quick dip and to bed. We get up early again the next day and are usually there by 10am. Is it worth it? Absolutely! We sleep in our own beds. We don't have to worry about the cleanliness and people running down the halls making noise and keeping us up. It is just peace and quiet. We love it.

We pull ours from Michigan. No problems at all and we don't see a huge difference in gas consumption. Certainly beats staying at a hotel!

We have towed both a 8 foot and 10 foot pop up to the Fort. We are taking a 12 footer this June. We tow from middle Tennessee and it takes about 11 hours to get there counting stops along the way. I use a WDH hitch along with sway bars. gas millage drops some but well worth it to save $$$ and get to sleep in your own bed. Plus I love to hear the rain on the tenting.

We don't pull a popup but a 34' trailer to disney. It's 2400 miles round trip. Gas for the trip last year was over $400 and I'm expecting the same this year. But we prefer sleeping in our own beds and bringing our bikes and I don't think there's a better place to stay at disney than Fort Wilderness.

We also pull an 8 foot pop-up from Indiana. We usually leave about 9 a.m. stop in Ocala and finish up the next day. We have driven it in one LONG day.
There's no better campground to look forward to.

We pull our 12 foot popup from Houston to the Fort every October. It's 1000 miles each way. We leave Houston early in the morning and drive to Milton, FL (just east of Pennsacola) and get there by late afternoon. The next day we get up and drive to the Fort. Usually there around noon or slightly later depending on traffic and road conditions. Doing it again this October.
