Have any of you or anyone you know changed their name legally?

i had a supervisor who legaly changed her name 6 times over the course of about 2 years. she was a whacko and for some reason thought it would be an easier transition if instead of just changing it to what she ultimatly wanted (a name from a romance novel that sounded good with her fiance's last name:scared:) she would gradualy change it one word at a time. it went:

(1) given first and last name (had no middle name)
(2) given first, NEW middle and given last
(3) given first, middle changed to last (with no middle)
(4) NEW first, same last
(5) same first, new last
(6) same first, same last hyphenated with newly aquired married last
(7) same first with just the newly aquired married last.

the i.t. and clerical departments were ready to kill her-everytime she changed it they were required to go in and change her name and position control number which auto generated a letter to every client she was assigned. that meant 300 letters that had to get separated, mailed and then a hard copy filed into the case record:sad2:

(i'm guessing the process in california was'nt too complicated or costly).
