So I have a fixed reservation DVC for the first week of December. This reservation is automatically booked every year. At the 7 month mark can I put in a waitlist for this exact week and studio accommodations assuming my total points are the same? Also as with all fixed weeks, the amount of points is actually more than the actual reservation points. So for number purposes, My CCV fixed week is 114 pts. But my total points for this contract are 118 if the reservation was cancelled. With a waitlist, if it is possible, would the new reservation have to be exactly 114 pts or would the extra 4 pts come into play?

To cancel a fixed week, requires a call to MS to free up the points for other reservations

But, once booked, I do not see why you can’t use the waitlist to get your room the old fashion way and then have it replace what was booked.

If the system lets you choose it to be replaced, I would assume you get the 4 points back.

You do not have to wait till 7 month mark to cancel. You cancel it at the 11 month mark and then rebook for lower pont level, kid the room is still available.

So I am hoping that I could put in a waitlist as usual for the whole 7 days. The problem is does it have to be for the exact number of points it took to book it ( example CCV in Dec is 114 pts), but once the reservation is cancelled to get the waitlist, I will now how more points to use (118pts). The 4 pts do not show until the reservation is cancelled. So would the waitlist borrow( if more than 114) since it doesn’t see the extra points if the reservation is for more than 114 pts but less than 118?

I don’t want to cancel the fixed week. It is automatically booked. I simply want to waitlist the exact same week at another resort.

I would think that when the fixed week is canceled to fill the waitlist, those points would then show up for use in booking.

But, I’d put do not borrow and then chat with MS to have a note added to the waitlist to be sure to use the points from the canceled fixed week.

Have not tried it but I know cancelling a fixed week requires calling. Possibly the waitlist would get around that.

I would say if it lets you pick that stay in the list then it should work without an issue.

So when a reservation you’re on the waitlist for becomes available, they notify you rather than just automatically booking that reservation for you? So that you can cancel your existing reservation first to free up the points to use to book that reservation that became available via the waitlist?

That is the question! That’s why I am wondering if it can be done without cancelling the reservation first or if it gets automatically cancelled and booked.

I’m also wondering, what happens if only some of the days of the week you want become available? Do they still offer that to you? If you decline because you want the whole week, can you only decline so many times?

Waitlists are all or nothing. Som if you waitlist a week, the entire week has to become available for it to fill.

If you have a reservation that has been booked that you want replaced and you tell them to do it, then it happens, The only time they call when a waitlist fills if there is something about it that they are unsure of.

In OPs case, it’s a fixed week…when those are booked ahead of time, it takes more points for that advantage. Once booked. It requires a call for you cancel it and use the points for something else…so, the question is whether or not you can ask a fixed week to be replaced using normal waitlist procedures

Yes, if it’s an automated process, I am not sure if it will be automatically cancelled. And if the reservation is not automatically cancelled, will the system borrow to fill the waitlist?

You choose if you want to borrow so they should not if you don’t authorize..
though I always screenshot the last page so I have proof. When you go to set up the waitlist, if it lets you choose to replace your fixed week, my guess is that it will work. If it doesn’t, than maybe call to have the waitlist set up so they can add a note.

And, when I say automatic, I mean that a CM processes it without a phone call to confirm. But, all waitlists once matched has to be processed by a CM
