haunting photos of abandoned amusement parks

Yeah Sea World is now Wildwater Kindgom. Geauga Lake was bought by Six Flags. SF ran it for a few years and sold it to the company that owns Cedar Point. They ran it for maybe a year or two and then closed it. They then sent the big metal coasters to their other parks (like King's Island, etc) or tried to auction off the rest. I know the Big Dipper cars were auctioned off, but the tracks are still there.

DH worked at GL for a few summers running the rock wall (maybe around 2000??).

Remember the Baywatch show at Sea World??? That was my favorite!

I'll try and take some pictures when the weather is nicer and post them on this thread.

Here's one from a local amusement park that creeps me out.

And here's a more "amusement parky" one he took at the same abandoned park

Northeastern Ohio sure has a lot of abandoned amusement parks. Maybe every time a sports team chokes in the playoffs God kills an amusement park.

I love seeing how abandoned places get reclaimed by nature.

We have one not to far from here called Chippewa Lake. If you go here and scroll a little south to the wooded area you can still see some attractions. I want to head down there and take some pictures at some point this summer.

I grew up a few miles from Chippewa Lake. Actually Imoved there in middle school. The sad part it the park closed a couple of years before I moved to the area. When I lived in Ohio I visited the closed park a few times and it was very sad.

Photos of urban decay fascinate me. I don't know why. If you Google abandoned buildings, you'll find lots of bloggers. Some of the photos are incredibly beautiful, in a very haunting way.

I agree.

I used to love going to Boblo Island when I was a kid. We went every year. We used to drive to Canada and take the quicker ferry as opposed to the big Boblo boat from Detroit. Whenever I hear the song "Let's Twist Again" I hear the Boblo commercial version in my head. Great old park. Wonderful family memories!

I saw a youtube video about that New Orleans Six Flags, really creepy with the music. Good setting for a zombie movie or something.

I loved Whalom park!

Does anyone remember Benson's Animal Kingdom? It was somewhere in MA, I forget exactly where. I loved it there though. And Fantasy Farm up in Lincoln, NH was great too.

Edit: Benson's was in Hudson, NH! I found this site. It looks like it's abandoned too:

I remember the tv ads for Benson's A. K., I don't think we ever went. I do remember going to Edaville Railroad, that is still up in running I had not thought of those places in years! Here is the Edaville site, that is still a very nice family spot. http://www.edaville.com/

Seeing Rocky Point as it is today makes me so sad, yet brings back so many good memories from my childhood and teen years. It was quite the place.

I have fond memories too. Dh went every summer. I only went a few times when my grandfather came to visit, we all went together. The saddest part is my most vivid memory is throwing up there one summer. :lmao:

Have you seen the documentary? Netflix instant has it. My kids watched it and thought it was cool their parents used to go there. :goodvibes

It fascinates me and creeps me out so much at the same time. It's very interesting.
