Ok, so we are heading back to WDW this Dec and my DD turned 4 in July. She is part daredevil, part scaredy cat. Things you would think she would be scared of she isn't and the things you would think she should NOT be scared of she is (did I lose anyone there?). Now that she is tall enough, she wants to try Barnstormer and then possibly BTMR. I didn't think she would want to try HM, but she was watching a Disney video that had it on it and she said she would like to go on that ride. Don't know if she really meant, but I am hoping she will.

We also have a DS1, so my question is do you think that HM will be too scary for him or is he too young to realize what is happening? :confused3 Both my DW and I like this ride and would like to go with both kids, but if it is too scary for DS, then one of us would take our DD, while the other waited with DS. That is if she still wants to ride it.

Has anyone had a similar experience? If so, what did you do?

I don't think so, but it might depend on how old the 1 y/o is... as in i'll be taking my 1 y/o how is 12 months and i'm sure she'll have no clue! I also took my 3 y/o when she was 1 but she was a 20 month old 1 y/o... but she didnt' mind it at all just kinda looked around at stuff! tried to nap i think! LOL

I would not. Haunted Mansion is loud and dark. It scared my son half to death, which really surprised us. Never again.

I think at that age they aren't old enough to be frightened. My DD was 16 months old the first time she went on it and had no clue that it was supposed to be creepy. She is now 6 and the HM is her favorite ride. We go on that ride at least 6 times on our trip.

My DD was 13 months when we went last September and she was fine on the Haunted Mansion. I am beginning to wonder how she will do this year :confused3 .

We took our one year old daughter on it last month. We didn't have any problems. It was nice to get out of the heat and into the air conditioning. We had those little hand held fans and the ones we have light up when you turn them on. She was occupied with the fan playing with it and watching it light up.

She didn't get scared or fuss at all.

My grandson was fine. (13 months) He sat on his dad's lap. It was his dad's first time in HM. They enjoyed it together. They were having the greatest time....

Hi! Took both my kids when they were that age and younger....neither were scared. As previous posters said, I don't think a childthat young knows it's supposed to be scary (not that I think HM is even scary at all!) My kids, now 6 and 8, have never been scared on this ride. Just a word of warning on BTM with a little one.....HOLD ON TO THEM! Put your arm around them and hold on! The ride has a lap bar which stops at the first point it hits- which will be your lap. Unless you are the size of your child, :goodvibes there may be a bit of room where the child can slide under the bar! Took my son when he was 3 (he was tall enough). He LOVED the ride but at first was slipping away under the bar! After that, I held onto him tightly! Enjoy! I'm sure she will love both rides. (I'd try Barnstormer before BTM...if she hates that, avoid BTM!) Kathy :earsgirl:

We took our daughter when she was 18 months old with no problem. she enjoyed the musice and motion of the ride. However, At three years old , we went again and it scared her a little. She said she did not want to rid that again, lol. Go figure.

It seems whenever you hear a crying child at HM, it's in the stretching room part, and the child is usually 3 or 4.

We took our twins at 11 months. One could have cared less. The other became anxious because it was dark. I made a point of laughing through the whole thing. He was ultimately fine with the whole thing.

Our 15 month old likes the HM. When we take him on it, we talk him through it with lots of enthusiasm. He points to the big spider, says knock knock, etc.

It seems that every child is different when it comes to the HM. Last time we went to DW (last October) my dd was 15 months old. She was obsessed with "ooga boogas" (what she called ghosts), loved Halloween decorations, and would laugh histerically at being scared. We thought the HM would be ok for her (actually, we thought she would love it.) We were sooo pathetically wrong. She was terrified and cried like we had never experienced, and I will never forget how horrible and trapped we felt. After that, everytime we were in line for a ride she would nervously ask, "ooga booga?" Needless to say, we wished we had thought better than to take her to the HM! So, I guess you never know!

I took my daughter on it when she was 15 months and she was fine. She held onto Daddy really tight in the opening area and from there was fine.

I think this ride is a toss up, I don't really think its 'scary' like a haunted house, but they sure make it seem like it before you get in. But my son sure did! In April my DS(7) who will go on any and all scary thrill rides would not go on the Haunted Mansion. We went a few steps into the opening hallway, he heard the howls and screams, then turned around and RAN out, and ran, and ran (Run Forrest, Run!). I didnt reach him until he got to the entrance of the riverboats in Liberty Square!

My youngest DD rode it the first time when she was 14 months old. She slept through the entire ride! She rode again when she was 8 and she just about cut off my circulation because she was squeezing my hand so tight. She was very afraid of the dark.

I took my 2 yr old nephew on it this past june...2 and half really and I was worried he'd get scared. He did get startled by the heads that jumped out from behind the tombstones but we laughed at it and he started to laugh too and ended up laughing at almost everything on the ride

Rides are what YOU make them out to be. If you give all sorts of warnings, your childs imagination will make it 10x worst than it actually is. If you go with a "fun" type of attitude it will reflect in your childs views. If they are scared, make jokes about the "ghost" or have your DS/DD yell at them. That always seems to work. If you try to scare the ghost instead of them scaring you, you'll get through the ride easier.

My dd was 4 1/4 when we went last year. She too is part daredevil, part scaredy cat!!! She did fine on the thrill rides but was a bit scared on Haunted Mansion, Snow White & hated Philharmagic (very scared at the 3D). We also have a 1 yr old (she was about 11 mo during our trip). She had no clue what was going on & was not scared at all. Not even at loud stuff. We brought ear muffs for dd4 (who does not like loud noises) for fireworks but the baby was fine!! We also brought glow necklaces that dd4 wore during the day (she liked it on the dark rides like Snow White) & LOVED it at night.
Have a great time!

I was going to say what Mr. Incredible said... they are what you make them to be... if you go in with a fun attitude and don't try to scare them it may be ok. We intend to take my DS (4.5) and DD (will be 2 then) when we go... I just tell them it's all pretend... and "look at the ghosts dancing" oh look isn't that funny!!!

I intend to take them on anything they can ride except Dinosaur and I will cover their eyes in the Alien part of the GMR (done this in the past with my kids and my neice).
