What’s the rules to the virtual Que?
Do I need to be in the park to get them?
Do I just keep refreshing to get tickets?

What’s the game plan on this?

I've read to join the 7am queue you don't have to be in the park. For the noon queue you have to be in the park to join.

Have time.is on a secondary phone or laptop and have someone else have your group on their phone in MDE.
Time.is always shows that my phone and laptop are always lagging behind time.is by as much as 3 seconds.
I was able to get a VQ 8 out of 8 times for TRON.

You can find more information here: https://disneyland.disney.go.com/en-ca/guest-services/virtual-queue/

There are 2 daily opportunities to request to join the virtual queue for Haunted Mansion Holiday:
  • 7:00 AM — Guests must have a park reservation for Disneyland Park with a one-park ticket or a park reservation for Disneyland Park with a Park Hopper ticket to request to join the virtual queue.
  • 12:00 PM (Noon) — Guests inside Disney California Adventure Park with a Park Hopper ticket or inside Disneyland Park can request to join the virtual queue.

Until just recently, it has been very easy to get a VQ. Someone posted that one day last week, they ran out. That may happen more frequently as the parks get more crowded for Halloween.

There's a long thread covering the first few weeks of it:
https://www.disboards.com/threads/haunted-mansion-and-the-virtual-queue.3948972/

It's not a challenge like the WDW VQs. It's available for the overwhelming majority of the day. You don't have to hit it exactly at 7am - the opening VQ is usually open until after 9am, if not longer. (It's 9:15am now, and the 7am VQ is still available.) The noon VQ is frequently still available into the early evening.

At last check, they haven't been enforcing return times, so all you need to do is get a spot at some point.

Do you mean like late in the day? When I was there before D23, I tried to hop into the VQ at like 8:30pm, and it was done for the day.

It sounds like I can join the virtual queue from home in the morning, even though I won't be in the park until close to 4:00pm. Do you all advise that?

If you join it early in the morning, you are likely going to end up getting a call back time for the morning.
And so then you are trusting that they would let you in later in the day, which would be at the cast member's discretion.

It's always a gamble that the CM might not let you in, but, so far, I don't think anyone here has been turned away for being late. A couple of weeks ago, I joined the VQ at 7:30am and entered the ride at 8:50pm without issue. (The next day, I was an hour late without issue.)

You probably wouldn't have a problem jumping into the VQ as soon as you got there, but your callback would likely be in the late part of the evening.

It's hard to advise one way or the other - especially if you're only going one day. (Like, I knew I was going to be there the next day if that 7:30am one didn't work.) But you probably won't have an issue if you jump in during the morning VQ. (You could always stall until like 8:30am or 9:00am if you wanted the callback to be a little closer to your arrival time.)

Guess we were the exception that proves the rule. We were turned away last Thursday (Aug 22) when we arrived late. it was the last day of Pixar Fest so DL was pretty busy so the CMs were enforcing the time window.

What time of day was that, and could you tell how long was the line was in the queue?

I've been wondering if they might be more "loose" about late arrivals if the line is short. (The line was short both times I entered late.)

It was around 6 PM, but I'm sorry didn't check to see how long the line was.

Pixar fest ended on August 4th. August 22nd I think was just the end of the fireworks and Magic Happens Parade (until after the new year)

Let me find the post. I believe it was this past Sunday (first day of OBB) when someone posted about it.

Edit: Still searching for the post. The person took a screenshot of their app which showed no more VQ availability. @brightlined look at Thrill Data and scroll down to where it says there was a 450 min delay on 8/25/24. Did the ride go down? If so, maybe that is why they stopped offering VQ. https://www.thrill-data.com/waits/attraction/disneyland/hauntedmansionholiday/#delays

I went on August 23rd. I entered the VQ at home around 9:00 a.m. and received a return time of 12:30 p.m.. My daughter got into the Park close to 5:00 p.m. and was still able to get a return time later on in the evening.

How far past your return window were you?

ThrillData's info for HMH is kinda weird, since they didn't switch it to cover the VQ (like with Guardians/TRON at WDW).

From their heat map, it looks like HMH didn't open until 3pm on 8/25, which would track with the lack of VQ availability. (It looks like it might have closed at 3pm yesterday, too.)

Kind of odd that on 8/25 (first day of OBB) it didn't open until what looks like 2:30 and, on 8/27 (2nd day of OBB) it closed at what looks like 1:30.

Tomorrow is the 3rd day of OBB. It will be interesting to see if it opens late or closes early.

The ride can break down to so if you miss it just screenshot your queue if you get called in a morning and you're not ready. If you try for the afternoon queue you will need to remove yourself from the morning queue because you can only queue once.

Our call back time was around noon, but we didn't make it into the park/HM until about 6PM. However, the CM didn't know our return window time and was simply announcing that latecomers would not be allowed to ride.
If this happens to anyone - I would just wait and try again later (especially if they didn't scan the ticket) - maybe eyeball a moment when there are few people in the queue. They may have simply had a rush that took up the available queue space at that moment.
