I am listening to Live 365 and there is a Haunted Mansion song "The Song & Story of the Haunted Mansion" that is playing. It's like riding the ride with a running commentary. Is this something that is actually played while you go through the Haunted Mansion at Halloween, or is it just a soundtrack that isn't actually used in the parks? It's neat to listen to, but I think it would be annoying to have it playing while going through the mansion.

There is no commentary playing while on the ride. Each "scene" along the way plays its own music. Wen the ride moves forward and you come to another scene, different music plays. It's really cool!

Well, there is the Ghost Host who talks to you at points along the way. My sister's set of CDs has a HM song and it includes the Ghost Host. I don't know if that's what the OP heard, but it certainly isn't annoying. It matches the ride, so maybe that song had something different added. :confused3

This was a whole story of two young people (I can't remember their names) who end up at the mansion during a storm. They stand on the porch, but it is too leaky, so they end up opening the door. You can hear the songs from the different areas as they 'walk' through the house. The ghost host does some commentary, but it also includes things like, "Look! There's a balcony. Let's go out there." "Wait! It leads into a graveyard." It's pretty cheesy, but fun.

Oh, that's odd. I never heard anything like that. Well, that is NOT on the ride! :rotfl:

I didn't think it was, but I wanted to double check. If you ever get a chance to listen to it, do it! DD and I listened while getting ready this morning, and it was almost like walking through the ride and experiencing as a real event. Awesome!

It was Mike and Karen (Mike was voiced by Ron Howard). We had this record as kids -- it was the flip side to Trick or Treat, a Donald Duck Halloween cartoon short from around 1953. I downloaded the "Story and Song" from the HM and have it on my iPod. When I have it on shuffle, I occasionally come across it. Always a nice reminder.

As an aside, we got the record in 1974. I remember thinking that it was a little cheesy but after listening to it, I realized that it was rather scary for a then seven-year-old me :-). It was my first introduction to the HM and the first time I ever went to DL, I got excited because I'd finally get to visit the place I'd only ever known through the record :-).

Halloween is coming -- my favorite holiday and favorite time of year :-).

Thanks so much for this info!

For anyone wanting to hear it, we found it at our local library. The CD has the Mike and Karen story and the song Grim Grinning Ghosts. DD6 loves it because she has been on the ride, and it talks in detail about many of the things on the ride.

I got a cd of this from Amazon, it comes with a little replica of the book from the record, it is really fun to listen to.
