Haunted Mansion Inside Info on the Refurb!!!

We emailed a question to our DIS Unplugged Podcast Crew concerning the refurbishment of the Haunted Mansion. Kevin had a hard time getting any info.. He worked hard on it & was able to get a confirmation that a wheelchair accessible "car" similar to the one in Nemo's ride would be included in the refurb of Haunted Mansion!!!!!


Isn't that great!! I just wanted to let everyone know about that! We appreciate the hard work Kevin did to get this info for us. I don't know if any of you listen to the podcast but they are great with getting the latest most up to date Disney information!:

I know that for us, it has been years since DH was able to go on the ride. Very sad, when you take your kid to WDW & they get old enough for a ride but then we realize Daddy can't get on! So my DH has missed out on those rides with DD, hopefully he'll get to experience it with our little neice & future grandchildren!!

Mickiethepooh, Where did you hear about the new audio? Kevin had said they really didn't want to release any info on the refurb!

Sorry but I still don't see the going over backwards in a wheelchair, that is not a comfortable thing having been tipped on my back once on a cruise by some really dumb crewmen. I hope they have made the stretching room accessible especially since it is suppose to be upgraded now.

It would really depend on the wheelchair. My DD's would be pretty comfortable tipped backwards since she has a headrest and we actually put up her antitip bars and tip her backwards to rest after she has a seizure.

I don't see how that would work with a wheelchair that has a low back and/or has no headrest.

It will be interesting to see how they work it out.

I would think it will really depend on the wheelchair and the ride vehicle. My DH uses a smaller power chair, the Invacare Pronto M61, h3 was able to ride Nemo's ride with no problems. But the Flying Carpets wouldn't work, even though his chair would fit, he has an EZ lock bolt (for locking into our van)underneath his WC that did not allow his chair to fit properly on the ride.

There's a couple of points in the ride where the doombuggies lean backwards at a fair angle to go up or down a slope. We're not sure how they would handle this for people without headrests, as it could be pretty uncomfortable to hold your head at that angle for that long. Hopefully Disney have thought of this and come up with an ingenious solution ! If they haven't, they may have to start thinking quickly!

We are leaving in the morning for WDW and I so plan on riding Haunted Mansion as soon as it opens!! I will post my experience when I come back.

A feature of the OmniMover system (what the Mansion uses) is that it can go down slopes while keeping the ride vehicle level. I wouldn't be surprised if that is how the wheelchair vehicle is setup.
