Don't bother with it. It's awful. The original Mansion is amazing and Tim Burton is overrated.
That's totally personal to each person.
When I first experienced HMH it was after decades of not seeing the real HM. I hadn't ever seen NBC and it was really confusing and overwhelming because I didn't know what was added and what wasn't.
DS, however, loved it, which is far more than I can say for how he feels about normal HM. So it got some bonus points for that.
Later, we were at an electronics store and were looking at TVs, one of which was playing NBC. DS got to watch a bit of it while we talked TVs (or maybe blu ray players). He enjoyed what he saw. So I bought it for DH's birthday, and they have watched it countless times. I didn't like it until around the 20th viewing I was around for, when I started to appreciate some aspects of it (possible Stockholm Syndrome there, ha ha ha).
I still don't watch much of Burton's work, and just the preview of Frankenweenie nearly made me throw up when they had it at the Muppets theater 2 years ago. But NBC is decent, and I actually quite like the overlay. Sure because my son likes it, but also because the real HM is kind of, um, boring and cheesy. Also neat and fun and nostalgic, but I'm a complex person and manage to feel ALL those ways about that one ride, all at once.
I like the overlay, though I didn't used to understand it.
