Does anyone know when Haunted Mansion goes down and when it typically returns in "holiday" mode?

I believe it goes down the week after Thanksgiving. My mother and I always go to DL the first weekend in December and it's always been back up in holiday mode by then.

I was actually wondering about the "Halloween" holiday mode from "The Night before Christmas" that the Haunted Mansion gets decorated for. Does it also do something for Christmas?

According to another reputable Disney website...last year they closed the Haunted Mansion in September for the Holiday Overlay, then removed it on January 8th. Does this mean that the Christmas Overlay is the same as the Halloween Overlay?

They are one and the same. The overlay is the Nightmare Before Christmas theme.

So if they close the Haunted Mansion in September to do the overlay, when does it open again?

Actually the HM goes down for the holiday overlay in early September, and is back up and running at the end of September-early October with the Nightmare Before Christmas theme. We've gone in early-mid October before and it was up and running!

We plan on seeing it this year and will be there starting on Oct. 9th.

Do you think it's possible that it will be open during the weekend of Sept 29-30?

all decrations are suposely up by thanksgiving they keep them till 2ed week of jan from what i heard

Wow, there's a lot of misinformation in this thread!

Yes, the HM goes down for decorations in Sept. It then remains decorated in the Nightmare before Xmas decor all through Halloween and the holidays. In January the decorations are removed.

Brenda is very right!

Yes the Mansion gets its Nightmare Before Christmas feel typically the beginning of October, but due to popularity or timing is going up end of September this year YEAH!!!

What leads to this confusion is that areas of the park get decorated for Halloween around this time as well, especially in New Orleans square.

Then these items are taken down and the whole park will get its Christmas Sparkle in November. Then all the decorations including the Mansion overlay come down around the first week of January.

The Mansion is left because the story line matches both the Halloween and Christmas season.

I also wanted to add it is my favorite tradition that DL ever started outside the Holiday lighting on Small World. It is fun and in my opinion adds to the Mansion and doesn't detract at all.

Sounds right to me!

When my whole family went in the fall of 2005 We went the end of Sept. - beginning of October and it was opened and running with the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay. And it's a definite must-see :)

Last year the HM opened with the Holiday Overlay on Friday, September 29. I know 'cause I was there. ;)

This picture was taken about 11:15AM. The line got much longer later.

In fact, the crowd in the Park that day must have exceeded their expectations. Starting in the early afternoon, there were P.A. announcements that DL would remain open longer that night (until midnight, iirc -- which was 2 hours later than scheduled).

I'd noticed that too! The HM Holiday is also a Halloween event - so it is down well before to set up.

It opens the first Friday in October, some years you get a soft opening a couple days before and it runs until through the first weekend in January, closing the first Monday after the first Sunday in January, unless the first Sunday is the 1st or 2nd or so, then it will go one more week. Note this has been what has happened since they started doing it, of course all things are subject to change.
