Hate thrill rides, should I avoid Star Tours and Dinosaur?

have you tried watching u-tube (you-tube - not sure which) videos of the rides??
dino - has dinos that jump out at you & scream but otherwise it is a jeep ride

I agree with the first part -- check out a youtube video and see what you think.

I disagree with the second part -- it is not just a jeep ride. It is bumpy and jerky and dark and scared the fire out of my little one. The bumpy/jerky part got me.

I don't know about the new ST but the old one was fairly tame.

FWIW, neither my husband or I are huge thrill riders but we LOVE disney and we always have a great time with the kids!!!

My DH is a very big ride chicken - he doesn't like heights at all. He is even nervous on Dumbo/Carpets and won't even try Astro Orbiter. He was afraid on Barnstormer. He likes Big Thunder (a lot), but thought Test Track was awful. He almost had a heart attack on Splash.

Dinosaur didn't scare him, but neither of us like it. It's loud, jerky, and dark. Still, there are no drops, loops, and it's not terribly fast. I don't think you'd be frightened, but I could always be wrong.

Star Wars is fine. Not scary at all.

If your issue is heights, maybe try Thunder Mountain sometime.

I am ride chicken too - perhaps partially. BMTR is my limit on roller coasters - I really dislike anything with a free fall drop in it. (e.g. Splash and Barnstormer). But I am fine with speed (test track) and fine with spinning (Mission:Space).
SO my question: what is Space Mountain like for the drops? I've always assumed it has those roller coaster ride drops - but the you tube videos are not really clear to me? What do you all think?

Dinosaur can scare you, which is why I love it so much. So yes, skip it! Star Tours is mainly motion oriented so you should be okay but who know what the new version will be like. I got sick on that one. And ignore the PP, I cannot do thrill rides like ToT and RnR but I love WDW because I can do so much there. But I would not be fun at US!

There are drops on both tracks of Space Mountain. I hate drops but was always able to deal with them. The big problem lately on Space Mountain for me is that it always seems to hurt my back now a days. I guess I'm getting old... anyway, it really depends on how sensitive you are. I love the drops on Big Thunder but hate the big ones like on Splash, and personally I think Space is somewhere in the middle. It gives me that stomach-dropping feeling but it's over quickly and it's not unbearable. I don't know if that's at all helpful to you, but good luck!

For me, it would be boring to go with someone who was too afraid to ride anything. Now, if you had tried all those rides and then decided you didnt like them, I would support you 100% . To just not do some disney rides out of fear just doesnt appeal to me. We are all entitled to our opinions even if they arent politcally correct

My 5 yr old is scared of some rides and won't ride them even tamer ones, including Haunted Mansion (as is our 8 yr old), seeing Fantasmic, Stitch, ITBAB, Big Thunder,Test Track, just to name a few and I don't find travling with him boring.
And no one will ride ToT with me, I don't hold that against them either and it doesn't diminish my fun that I have to go on it alone.

Speaking as a fellow ride chicken, I will say Dinosaur is a blast and I recommend getting up the courage to ride it. For one thing, anymore the line seems to always be incredibly short. The atmosphere during the ride is fantastic except for total or near total darkness a couple of times. Also, there are no drops, just turns and if you keep your wits about you enough and listen to the audio, the narrator tells you which way your vehicle will be turning and he never lies, so no surprises or sudden falls.

Star Tours, at least the old version, is more of a motion sickness issue and looks like it will remain one. Just remember you can always break the realism of motion simulators by focusing your eyes on something else. I had to do that with Soarin' a couple of times when I was sitting on the end although looking down at people dangling 30 feet below me wasn't much more reassuring.

Also a ride chicken, and I agree with this 100%! Dinosaur was a bit jerky but fun (I don't love stuff jumping out at me, but it wasn't too bad) and Star Tours makes me sick as a dog, yet I ride it anyway! Both are worth trying!

I love these sorts of thread (I have started a few recently) and how everyones interpretations are different. I am a seriously low key rider. Adrenaline doesn't kick into fun for me just pure fear so I never go on anything I think would "tickle my tummy". Dinosaur however I have done and found it fine. It does throw you round a little but nothing major and I wouldn't exactly describe it as a thrill ride.
