Hate is Hate - No Matter the Color...

What makes things worse is, Hate is taught. We are not born to hate.

That's so sad. And yes, hate is hate. But only some of it gets attention.

I agree with you, but apparently many prosecutors do not.

There was a case near me- Channon Christian and Christopher Newsome - they were kidnapped (carjacked? the (not worthy of being called people) took them and their car). Chris was murdered - forced to walk barefoot down railroad tracks, shot and burned (and much, much worse than that). Channon was kept alive for several days, repeatedly raped, bleach and other household chemicals poured over her body (supposedly to cover/destroy DNA evidence), she was kept tied up while the (not worthy of being called people) were in the next room - like it was a normal day for them. She was finally suffocated when the (not worthy of being called people) put her into a trash bag. Their case was not prosecuted as a hate crime. C & C were white, the (not worthy of being called people) who tortured and murdered them were black.

If I remember correctly, only one of them was sentenced to death. Details of the case are worse than your worst nightmare. The newest twist is that the judge in the case was abusing prescription pills during the trials, so, you guessed it - the murderers get new trials.

After watching the trial and reading the evidence brought forth in trials, if there ever was a hate crime, the Christian/Newsome murders were certainly one.

Evil is present in all colors and cultures.

Another Tennessean DISer had posted about this case a while back, and I made the mistake of googling and reading about it. It is one of the most horrific crimes I've ever heard of. I don't know how those families go on knowing what they know. You're right...those perpetrators are despicable hatefilled monsters...nothing less.

I thought that "Hate Crime" was kind of a multiplier. If a crime was motivated by race, gender, sexual orientation, etc then it's a "hate crime" and the punishment is worse than the punishment for the crime alone. The story linked to by the OP (although I have no idea why we're reading a UK version of a Kansas story!) appears to be a "hate crime" because the perpetrators made racial comments to the victim while pouring gas on him and setting him on fire.

OP, are you saying that you don't think he need the "hate crime" multiplier?

The reason why you are reading a UK version of it is because many times stories like this are NOT picked up by US newspapers.

This crime and the one about Channon Christian and Christopher Newsome are so sad.

And Saturday, a young man was murdered at Mississippi State.
I don't know if it was racially motivated, but a white student was murdered by 2 black men.

While Trayvon's death was certainly a tragedy, we also don't know if that was racially motivated either.

Where is the outrage? Where are the multiple posts that should be on this thread too? :confused3

Live on HLN: town hall meeting, Mayor, Sharpton, Trayvon's parents, etc.

Thanks. I am watching it now.

Sometimes I want to weep for humanity. The evil we do to each other just sickens me. All these crimes mentioned just tear me up. It's just so sad.

The pictures were from KNBC news here in the US. It was covered when it happened nearly as month ago. The Mail has just sensationalized it.

You really don't think Treyon's death was racially motivated? Wow .

Funny, I never heard anything about the incident until today, on this thread.

This is sensationalism and the situation with Treyvon's death is not????

While Treyvon's death was certainly a tragedy, we also don't know if that was racially motivated either.

Sorry, that is my quote, in case you didn't understand it, I bolded.
I choose to wait until all the evidence is out to make an informed decision.

I am so saddened and sickened by so much of the news these days. This one has me speechless. They're looking at a "possible" hate crime??? :confused3 I'm pretty sure there was hate oozing from these boys as they doused a 13 year old with gasoline and set him on fire. :sad1:

So sad.

OP, are you from a small town or small city where you've (luckily) never had a hate crime occur? Yes, all viscious & and evil crimes are based on hate. But, as RobinB said below, "hate crimes" by definition fit under another category so that that sort of scum gets worse punishment.

They are all over the local news here when one happens, as cracking down on hate crimes in this city is a big thing. We are so diverse here. Crime and hatred will never be stopped. That will go on till mankind ends. But, by making hate crimes multiplied in punishment, we are saying as a country and as a united people that it is more heinous & we do not tolerate them.

What I don't understand is how the 9-11 call was not enough evidence for you.

Funny, it wasn't 2 minutes ago on the mess of a thread that you didn't appreciate people telling you how to think.

Ah, yes, here it is:

Soooo insulting. :sad2:

Like grown people need to be told what to feel. Like we have no experiences or thoughts and so called "leaders" can tell us what to think.

So insulting.

Nuff said.
