This just made me super excited, even though we all kinda knew that's what it was lol.

I was hoping that he, the infamous one, would FINALLY be returning! Yay!
Muahahahaha!

The original Parks Blog about this -- in which Erin was teasing us with the question/mystery of what was going to materialize in the Haunted Mansion -- was the funniest thing ever. It was funny because every single comment, page after page, said the same thing: Hatbox Ghost. The handful of comments that did not say Hatbox Ghost were just thrown in to be different and witty.

At that point I wondered to myself, do the Parks Blog folks realize that rumors get around way in advance and that everyone already knows a lot of these things well before the Blog ever announces them? Heck, we may even know them before the people who write the blogs know them!

Now I am waiting for the ominous, inevitable "mystery" Blog about the Christmas star returning to the top of the Matterhorn!

I think it also didn't help their (Disney) case because they started putting him on HM merchandise and stuff lol. They pretty much blew the secret on their own.

I am just kind of worried that the legend was more fun than actually having it, in this case. Time will tell.

I am excited to see him. I am going in December and wonder how he will integrate with Jack

Why couldn't they do these a few days earlier? Or a few days later? Just my luck that it will be down for refurb the two days we are there :sad2: I'd love to see the Hatbox Ghost, but I'd have been just as happy with the pre-refurb version too!

Sherry, I think I would faint if they put that star on top of the Matterhorn! That would be truly amazing to see!

I would love to see it! I would have never thought about the star or considered that it would return if not for the rumors that began circulating last year. Now it just seems to make sense -- if they're bringing back the Hatbox Ghost, and they've now enhanced the Matterhorn scenes a bit, why not put a star up there as well? Nostalgia seems to be a strong undercurrent for this year's 60th anniversary.

Now if only they could think of a way to expand the Candlelight Ceremony & Processional to more than 2 nights without it causing havoc and mayhem in Town Square...

Lol. True! Appearing on merchandise was a 'dead' giveaway, indeed. ;) If you suddenly start seeing merchandise that shows a giant star on top of the Matterhorn, let me know! :lmao:

I think that there will be a bit of that opinion going around. It's inevitable. Some people will be very excited to see the Hatbox Ghost, and others will probably come out of the ride thinking, "Well... that was underwhelming."

I'm curious to see how that is all handled as well. I can't imagine Disney skipping Haunted Mansion Holiday this year -- even for the Hatbox Ghost -- because it is too big of a deal during Halloween Time and the holiday season.

So far a great week forThe HM. Hatbox ghost s back and looks like the movie with Del Toro is growing some legs. Both very exciting.

I noticed that a couple of people have already mentioned Haunted Mansion Holiday in the comments under today's blog, asking if it will be back this year. Erin isn't always able to reply to everyone who posts -- and sometimes, if she does reply, it might be 2 weeks later -- but I wonder if she will come back and acknowledge those comments in any way (even just in a vague, not-really-revealing-anything kind of way). I doubt that she would give a definitive answer about HMH this early in the year if there is even a slight chance that it won't return. The questions would probably be skipped over.

Has anyone here actually seen the original hatbox ghost? It's amazing how much a part of Disneyland fan lore it has become despite so few having ever seen it firsthand.

perfect -- we can ride HM on the first day and the last day of our trip -- i was worried it wouldn't be back up before we left!

I never got to see the original - and honestly, wasn't aware of the legend. We live in MS, so vacation to Disney World more...We are returning again in June though, so I am excited to get to see this!! :)

Even though a lot of us already knew this news, it has still completely made my day! Can't wait to go in May.

I'm really excited about this announcement and although I'm a local (I live 12 miles away) I still have reservations at Grand California for the opening weekend for the Diamond Celebration which includes 24-hours of Disney.

The original was only there for 2 days when the ride opened in 1969. So not many have seen it
