Hassled at Islands of Adventure (to buy Mystic Dunes) - anyone else annoyed by this?

Sunday we were approached as we were walking by MIB. This is the first time I felt we were aggressively approached at US. I politely said that we were not interested because we own DVC and the salesman said in a somewhat snide manner, "Oh, well isn't that nice." My uncle who was a first time visitor with me made a comment about the sales rep being a jerk. I was realy surprised by the whole thing and can only believe that they are being pushed by the declining economy. (Not a good excuse by any means!)

Ugh, so the vultures continue their attack!

That what really gets me - non-regular visitors like myself and your uncle don't see it coming. I never expected to be happily walking to Popeye's Boat one second, then be trapped with this aggressive sales guy pushing stuff on us the next. If I known it was coming, I would have screamed at him to leave us be!! But that's what so sneaky and so irritating - people don't expect this inside the park!

That sounds like the guy that approached us. We told him we were leaving the next morning really early (we were. it was not a lie). He said "Sure you are. Why are you leaving so early?" I wanted to punch him in the face.

I would've said 'none of your business'

damo, keep that email address handy.
I go in October and I'll be glad to do an email if I have any issues with the sellers.

Do these Westgate people ever phone and harass you? I got a call about a week ago that had me shaking I was so mad:scared1: ( Ilive in Canada)

She called and said I had "won" a trip..the usual...I said no not me goodbye and then she said wait ..you stayed at Universal in October your e-mail is ****, address is**** she knew it all so I obviously entered something .......I said look it.exactly what have I won and how much will it cost me:rotfl: :rotfl: she went on and on and then said $200 and now I just need to talk to your husband%#@!#!...that's when I knew it was a timeshare!....i said look it stop harassing me and said I am hanging up now ..goodbye.....

She had the nerve to call BACK!!! and say we got disconnected!!! I said NO..I hung up on you do not call again!!!!

I was really shook up by this because she had so much personal info....

I wouldn't have given a reason in the first place. People, you DO NOT have to engage! You don't owe any reason. Just say "No" and nothing further...or better yet, don't say anything at all. I just say "No thanks" and keep walking, no matter what they say or do.

I would have said we killed the last Timeshare pusher that annoyed the crap out of us while we were trying to enjoy our vacation and the police is bound to find the body soon...

Yes we definitely learned our lesson!

The booths are definately still there. There are four booths at the resort. Near MIB, Shrek, Marvel, and River Adventure. There are four timeshare companys that rotate locations every couple months. They are Westgate, Wyndham, Orange Lake, and Tempus (mystic dunes, seedoo, tempus... all the same thing).

And yes, the rent on those booths is high enough that they will not be going anywhere, any time soon, unless there are an avalanche of complaints. I hate that they are in the parks too, but whenever I go I just walk by and dont say a word to them. There is a radius around the booth of a certain number of feet that they are not permitted to exceed.

You should have said, "because of you."

So true! But that's where these hard-sale creeps have such an advantage. I thought they worked at Universal and were just chatting, like CMs at Disney. I would never have engaged them if I knew who they were and what they were really doing! When I was talking to the Mystic Dunes vulture and when he started the hard sale and I realized where this conversation was going, only then did I check his nametag and saw he had nothing to do with Universal. I was just so fuming that Universal allowed this type of selling, and so angry that my nephew had to see me practically yell at the guy to leave us alone to get out of there. It did dampen our mood, that's for sure.

I never saw it coming or I would have prepared myself to fend them off, or just avoided or ignored them altogether. After the encounter, we were very cautious crossing from Marvel to Toon Island after that, making sure the vultures didn't notice us again - very annoying. :sad2:

Sad to say, Universal allowing this crap really cheapens my view of them. :(

or follow old bar etiquette & give them a fake phone #:rolleyes1

Can someone note this on a US/IOA map and post a link here? I want to have my video camera ready when we pass by.
