Has your child ever been named to Who's Who of American High School Students?

Me and my dd are in it. I never bought the books though.

I went to high school in the 80's (the late 80's!), and it wasn't much of an honor then. I think about 1/4 of my class got it. Looking at their website, it looks like you need a B grade point average and to be nominated by someone at your school. I bet the nominations is what leads to such a variation in who gets it at different schools.

We didn't buy the book, but I remember looking at a copy at the library and being unimpressed. I bet libraries still have copies, if you want to check out how many people get this. I think it barely outranks those poetry contests where win, get 'published' and can buy the book.

p.s. I would /not/ mention it on a college application. It's just going to dilute your kid's real accomplishments and make it look like you're reaching for stuff to put on the page.

My son was so excited when he got his letter and I was excited for him too.

I agree with many of you. It really took the thrill out of it for me when I finally figured out all they really wanted was my money!

I don't mean to downplay your child's accomplishment, but there is a Who's Who for just about every profession as well. I got nominated after Grad School, and was sickened by the hard sell for the "networking directory". I actually sent an e-mail to my school blasting them for even associating themselves with such an organization.

I got named, but like someone else said, I think they only do it to sell books. I don't think it amounts to much of anything.

My daughter was nominated all 4 years in h.s.

Her Phyics teacher who was also her chemistry teacher nominated her.

The First year I bought the book and the second year I bought her the mug.

She also went to the Presidential School in Washington DC her Junior Year for a week-Sat.-Sat. They met her at the airport and shuttled her back to the airport when she left. She was never unsupervised. The school is part of Who's Who. The trip cost $900 and she stayed in a room with 3 other girls in Georgetown on the University.

She saw and did more things in DC than the average tourist. She met our Senator's and House of Representatives, the President and she got to travel underground where only Congress can travel.

She was in the classroom in the morning and she said they usually toured in the afternoon. She met a lot of great people and she still talks and e-mails to some of the people she met that week.

We received a letter Saturday saying that our son had been nominated and that we should receive a letter soon confirming that he had made it.

I figured that it was a money making operation. We won't be buying but it's nice to know that he was acknowledged for making good grades. He's in the top 25 - 35% of his class.
