We just signed into DVC last week and have not received paperwork yet, however, that has not stopped some of our family members from asking when are we all going? lol Man oh man, is it just me having a difficult time saying we'll have to wait and see? Oh well I may need some advice from all you DVC veterans on how to best nip this in the bud early. TIA :sad2: :moped:

BTW we don't mind bringing our exteded family but we'd like to be able to ask then when we would like for them to come with us instead of EVERYONE thinking our vacation is their vacation. KWIM? :moped:

There have been some interesting discussion about this - and related - topics in the past. For some folks, having relatives and friends find out they're now DVC owners is like winning the lottery - suddenly they show up on your doorstep, wondering when the gravy train for WDW leaves.

Of more interest was the discussion of who do you bring with, and how much (if any) do you charge guests.

Shhh! Tell them you decided not to go through with the contract after all. Then change your mind and forget to mention it. Ever.

Just ask them for their bank account numbers so you can get the dues directly debited from their accounts.

Hmmm...when are we ALL going, you ask? When YOU buy some points for yourself. That's when.

Tell them about renting points from a Dismember for a DVC resort, and then they could join you. After all, your accomodations are only for a limited number of people.....

Good luck, this is a tough one.

What are you waiting for start planning your trip, pick up the phone make that first ressies, then you can start the borrowing points, then you can start
renting points for the few you are short, now its time for that add on.... :rotfl:

My advice is to just smile and tell the truth the next time someone says something -

"Much as we'd like to, we can't afford to pay for anyone else's vacation, but I would be glad to help anyone who would like some help planning their own trip - and if you are interested in the Vacation Club, just let me know. I'll give your name to our sales guide and you can use us as a reference".

Best wishes -

LOL, this is some fun reading :rotfl:
Been members since 99 and we've been trying every trip to get another couple to go with us. Finally another couple we know desided to get married after 11 years of living together and we talked them into letting us book them a one bedroom at BWV along with us ( in a separate 1 bedroom 8-) for a honey moon. I never thought it would be so hard to get people to join us even when we're picking up the room at no cost to them. LOL

Our problem is that a lot of family lives in FL and when they know we're going to WDW they want to see us. When it gets late they say "we could just sleep on the sofa". We have had quite a few hurt feelings but we have had no problem telling them they only live 30 mins away and their own bed was calling them. We vacation to get away from the real world and that does include family at times. ;) This is why we don't always tell the family when we are going.

I'll have to keep that in mind the next trip. By then I should have gotten to know everyone here better :wave2:

Today at work, a friend/co-worker says to me-''well, now that you have this timeshare thing, I think it's time for you to start planning a girls trip to WDW''
I stuck out my hand and said ''then I think it's time for you to give me some money'' :rotfl:
This is coming from the same friend who can never decide if she's coming to dinner or not :sad2:

Our family never asks when we are going as we usually ask them when they can go LOL.

:goodvibes Now this quote I will use in the future. Thanks. Like I said I'd be happy to bring relatives once a year but the other trips I'd like to be on my own so I can do what I want, when I want. :moped:

My sister-in-law bought into DVC when we did 18 months ago. Neither of us has told anyone in the family we bought into DVC. I wonder why???

For us it's usually the other way too. We always reserve a 2 bedroom at the 11 month window, and then we start inviting folks to go along. I have one couple who has asked us a couple of times to invite them, but when I have, they have backed out, so they blew their chance! :teeth: I really enjoy taking folks who think it is a priveldge to be invited and who don't expect it.
