I was wondering if any of you have experienced this...

our mousekeeping people WOULD NOT take the tip! I leave it out everyday in the mousekeeping envelope, and every night I come back the envelope is still there, and the money is still there.

What's going on here? I'm totally confused, and my DH is too. We left them a tip for 2 rooms, as we had connecting rooms. Five nights and not one envelope was taken.

I've tried leaving the envelopes on the sink, on the nightstand, in front of the tv... I mean anywhere that it's visible. Not to mention, the envelope itself is neon green color.

What's the deal???

Did it say "for the mousekeeper" on it? When I stay in a normal hotel and leave a tip, I put it on a note that says "for the housekeeper". They might not realize it's for them.

If you wrote on the envelope, I would guess maybe he/she couldn't read english. At my office, if we need anything thrown out that doesn't fit into the waste basket, we must write "trash" in Spanish.

We left a tip at end of our stay instead of day to day. Now that I think about it, leaving it on a daily basis makes more sense. I don't know if they split that sort of thing or not. anyway, we left it on the table in one of the glasses with a thank you note.

There's an envelope for that sort of thing? I've never seen one.

to us last Dec at the GF. It was not taken more than it was. We too had connecting rooms and the envelopes were not taken in either room. This most recent trip I left the envelope in Pluto's mouth on the pillow at the Poly and YC and it was taken each morning. In its place was a towel animal, our first ever. I always wrote a note on the next days envelope thanking them for the towel animal.

Both times I used envelopes printed off that web site and I always left the towels used to make the animals.

Is there a spanish word for Mousekeeping? :D

I made the envelope, wrote for mousekeeping on the front and a thank you on the back flap. I purposely made it with neon green paper just so it wouldn't be missed.

Now that I think about it, our mousekeeper was hispanic but she spoke pretty good english... so I'm pretty sure she can read english.

Just something that's been puzzling me since we came back. At the end of the trip, we left the whole amount on the table in the envelope, but unsealed. So hopefully she took it.

This happened to me at ASMo as well. I never saw our Mousekeeper, but they didn't do that great of a job. All they did was make the beds and put new towels in the bathroom--I never saw any evidence of actual cleaning. I cleaned the sink out myself most evenings when we returned to the room. When I requested an ironing board and iron, it looked like someone had just opened the door and heaved them into the room. They were laying in the middle of the floor by the bed--it was lucky it was still light outside or we might have tripped on them. I figured our mousekeeper never bothered to look on the table when he/she came in the room.

It's too bad, really. I loved everything else about ASMo. I did see other people had towel animals, etc, in their windows. I can live without towel animals--but a little tidying up would have been nice!

Please don't let this dissuade you from staying at ASMo. I would certainly go back again--I think we just happened on a bad mousekeeper. Luckily, there's just the 3 of us and I'm used to picking up after us!

I had the same "problem' at the Dolphin. The maids just didn't take the envelopes that were left. I e-mailed the infamous Mr. Swan/Dolphin himself, who replied that their maids are not used to being tipped. Is it possible that the mousekeepers who left the envelopes were new, and not used to accepting tips? You'd be amazed at how many folks don't think to tip the staff who clean. It's just a thought.

At AKL I left money daily in that little folded card they leave you at the begining of your stay with the name of the mousekeeper on it. It was taken every day (but we only got towel animal once:( )

I always use the little card that they leave on the nightstand or vanity from housekeeping with their name on it. I put the dollars in that card so they know it is only for them. I have only had one visit where they did not take the $ that way. We leave it daily in case they switch mousekeepers on us.

I just have to put in my two cents about tipping - it is nice to have the extra tip - but the reason when you pay your bill it has the room rate, grats, tax and levy on it is to cover the tips for housekeeping, laundry and bellman. Disney build this into their package pricing - you are not obligated to tip more. Rest assured the mousekeepers are getting weekly grats based on the amount of rooms they clean per day.

They do love the extra tips though and if they do a great job by all means go ahead and tip - I do.

We had this same problem when we stayed at WL two years ago. We left the tip and the little name card with the check in desk when we left. We also wrote the mousekeeper a thank you note. We didn't get any towel animals or anything like that but we had the cleanest rooms ever. She did a fantastic job and truely earned that tip.

Happened to us last summer at the WL. Left tip with envelope all decorated, and they never took it. Then I decided to leave it in the bathroom, and then she took it. I don't know what was going on.

We did not have that problem at BWI, our housekeeper was sweet. No towel animals but something cute everyday with kids stuffed animals, some really clever (all lined up on kids bed watching cartoons with remote control in Mickey's hand! ). We saw her in passing several times in the hall, she always had a kind word for us. We tipped $3 per day and I left it with a short note by the sink.

Our Mousekeeper at ASMo was WONDERFUL in 2001! Every day she did something new--put my DS's Mighty Duck slippers in the window, posed stuffed animals, etc. We spoke several times but I never even THOUGHT to tip her (I'm not a very seasoned traveller!) But I will this time. I feel bad now--she did a great job!

We always leave the tip with a note on the pillow. This way there's no way they can possibly miss it. It's been taken every time!

I have my DD decorate a plain envelope with the words "Thank you for cleaning our room" with markers and then Disney stickers. It's always been taken. But, I just wanted to note that in all our stays the past 2 years (12) at all different resorts, we've actually received a thank you note for the tip twice and both times were at the AllStars - 2 different trips. I just figured that they weren't as likely to get tips there than the deluxes so they appreciated it more? Don't know, just thought it was interesting.

Now we had the opposite happen to us! Left about 5.00 worth of change on the nightstand- and they took it! No note- nothing- they just took it!

I made the most the most beautiful mousekeeping envelopes with photoshop in English, Spanish and DH insisted, French.

And for the 16 days we were there she took the envelope once, actually she didn't really take it, as we were running late we left at the front of her cart as she was waiting for us, she gave us the most huge smile and all of her teeth were gold!
She really didn't clean a whole lot but seemed very pleasant and we were given an abundance of towel creations everyday.
I wonder if there is some new policy about taking tips these days.
Cheers!

So how much should I tip? We are staying at the FW cabins, and there will be 7 of us, (2 adults and 5 kids, including the baby).
I thought someone said $1 per person, per day, but from reading these posts, maybe $5 a day would be more appropriate?
And, when you stay at other hotels (other places around the country), do you tip if you are only there 1 night?
