your sick! :(

My DD got sick for a week when we got home for a 10 day trip. It was a fever and virus, aweful. Gotta wonder if its the plane or not.

I am a germ FREAK so I am well aware of what being in crowds and such means. Just thought I'de post cuz I think it happens a lot. Has it happened to you?

My dd is ALWAYS sick upon return. Her first trip, she got a massive ear infection the day we left and had a fever of 102. Her second trip, she had an awful cold within a day of getting home and this time, she has bronchitis.

This happens to me. I blame it on the air travel :)

We got home on saturday and we are all sick. My DD was first, she actually got SICK on the ME bus on the way to the airport. Sorry to anyone that was on it. I don't know if I will blame it on the plane though. My sister is a flight attendant and she has never been sick. I think in our family we are all just over tired and are ammune systems are not 100%. Heres hoping I feel better in the morning and the kids and DH too!

i always get sick after the trip
but i always say to myself...at least its not DURING the trip!

This subject has been broached many times. You have to remmember the hoards of folks from all over that come to WDW, and a lot of them bring their germs and microbes or whatever with them. Confine yourself in a small space with these folks {stretch room in HM for example} as well as holding on to railings and door handles, and presto! their disease is now yours. Keep your hands clean by carrying a portable container of hand sanitizer with you, and use it! If someone is coughing, sneezing and sniffiling, stand clear if at all possible. The simple act of pulling back a chair in a restaurant that a sick person has just touched {hand sanitizer!} can make you sick. Oh yea, and keep away from the water fountains, carry bottled water instead. Some of these simple things will keep you from getting sick.

ABC's 20/20 just had something on this last week. They were asking if the recycled air blowing on you in the plane was bad for you. They said the air filters on the plane;s worked very well and you're more likely to catch somehting from sitting close to someone who is ill than from the air vents.

If your children are small I think it is the chains they use to separete the lines. This past weekend it drove me crazy as kids just hung and swung them. They can't keep their hands off them and just kept running them into me and my family the whole time we waited in lines. Constant bang, bang , bang into my legs. And if it's not that it has to be the finger scan. That just grossed me out. next time I'll have to bring hand sanitizer to use after that.

Last October my Dbest friend, her DM, and I went to WDW and after we returned home we all were deathly sick for 2 weeks... Each with different symptoms! I too blame this primarily on the air travel. This time around I plan on taking megadoses of vitamin C all week long!

As a poster said earlier, I'd rather get sick AFTER WDW than during! Both DD and DH got terrible colds, complete with hacking cough, sore throat, and fever, right in the middle of our 8 day trip. We ended up spending a small fortune at Everything Pop for cold/cough meds. DD felt better by a day or two after we got home- DH still has a cough, and we have been home for almost 3 weeks!! How I managed to resist their illness, I don't know- but we spent the last couple of days of our vacation just doing the bare minimum and mostly hanging around the room, sniffling (they sniffled, and I medicated, wiped noses, and ran to the Food Court for juice and other stuff).

That's so true. What I really don't like doing is having to handle the menus in the restaurants. Just knowing how many people have handled them that day...then my hands are on one...then I have to eat 20 minutes later (or whenever my food arrives). I try to keep DS7 from even touching the menus because he is always putting his hands near his eyes, nose, etc.

Maybe this works for us? We've never been sick upon returning from a trip to DW. (Knock on wood) :goodvibes

Yep! DH and I both got bad colds a couple days after we got home. Just in time for me to go back to work. :confused3

Just washing your hands a lot will save so much of this from being caught. And not touching everything you walk by LOL but kids will be kids.

Sorry, It's not WDW!

I work at WDW, and touch WDW, touch you, touch chains, your money, your tickets, everything 5 to 6 days a week for 6 to 8 hours straight. If it were WDW, I would think I would have kieled (sp?) over and died by now.

I did however get sick after the plane ride on my "vacation" home to Illinois. So I only got sick after NOT being at WDW for 5 days!

Are you going to use hand sanitizer everytime you pump gas, use the MAC machine, push a shopping cart, open any door in a public place, etc. etc., c'mon you can't go out in public and not touch something without someone else's germs on them, but to blame the "gross finger scans" at Disney is a little extreme.

....and actually, they are saying anti-bacterial soaps could be worse for you than not washing your hands. Good 'ole regular soap is the way to go.

What you say is partially true. Soap and water is the preferred (and by far best) way to wash - plain, no anitbacterial, warm, not hot and for 20 seconds. It is also true, that hand sanitizers can dry hands when over used - creating tiny cracks where germs to enter. It is also true that they do not kill 99.9% of germs in common practice - more like 80% which sets the stage for resistant bacteria but, the true breeding grounds are homes and hospitals not public places. That said, I'll take 80% in an environment like WDW any day, when nice warm water and good soap are not available. Hand sanitizers are a great fall back when you are exposed to the masses - it's going to be difficult to argue that its not. We use standard soap at home and keep sanitizer in our bags and cars - we do santize after gas stations, grocery stores, malls etc. with a moisturizing santitzer. If we can wash hands - like in a bathroom or restaurant - then we gladly take that better option.

Even worse than that, It's that the antibacterial craze is making bacteria evolve into superstrains that are harder to kill off.

Regular soap should be used for regular use, and the anti-bacterial soaps kept for special needs, like when someone in the household is sick.

On another note, my 3 year old puked on me on the bus to EPCOT two years ago...that was fun. Luckily, we were on a 10 day trip so, the 2 days he was sick were not total trip ruiners!
I guess it goes to show even clean freaks get sick sometimes!
