Has this cold and miserable winter encouraged anyone to move to Florida

According to the Groundhog, we are going to have at least 6 more weeks of terrible winter weather. This winter in most of the northern part of the country has been one of the worst ever! Does it encourge you to move to Florida, or maybe another warm weather (year around) spot?

If you have not considered moving to a warm climate? Why not?

You know, this has been the first year that I really hated living in NYC. I am so tired of this cold weather and snow. Years ago DH, DD and I were going to move to Florida, but I decided to stay because I didn't want to be far away from my parents. Now I'm starting to regret my decision! But I'm a true NY'er and I'm not sure that I would be truly happy moving away. Even though the warm weather really is a good bonus.

Left the great white north 24 years ago. Only go back to visit. Even then when I stop seeing palm trees as I am driving north I get the urge to turn around.:smooth:

Think about it every day and taking a trip next week to look at the Gulf Coast. Anyone have a deal on a nice ocean front condo in the Fort Myers area? Looking to invest until we finally can move!

All I can say, is go to Florida and stay for June, July, and August. I grew up in South Florida and really have no desire to live there ever again (of course, frequent trips to WDW are another story!). People who live in Florida don't go outside in the summer if they can help it. It is too hot and too humid ALL THE TIME. I never saw a real season change until I went to college (why are the leaves changing colors? I've never seen that before!!!). I agree that Florida is great in the winter, but I don't miss seeing the steam rise from the ground every afternoon after the thunderstorms every day in spring and summer! Just my $.02 though. My dad has lived there 30+ years, my stepmom is a native and they will never leave. Same with my stepsister and stepbrother and their families. My mom couldn't wait to escape and left as soon as I left for college.

If we hadn't "just" bought a new house...we would definitely be considering a move south! We need some :sunny:

Nope! No Florida home for me, except WDW. :teeth: Though I must say that forgoing a Jan./ Feb. vacation, for "Paris in the Spring" is NOT looking like a wise trade at this point! I am about to hop a plane to my in-laws (FL), or my Mom's(AZ), for a nice long weekend! Yes, it is that bad.

Keep the Faith!

My sister and BIL just did this exact thing - my BIL is from Virginia originally and this winter on top of last just did him in so they up and sold their house and moved on down last month. I gotta tell you though, after having lived down south for college - I would never ever want to live in Florida for the entire year. I like walking on grass and not wondering if their is a snake underfoot or if the lizard had the brain power to get out of the way - I love snow and I love to ski its just the cold I hate - I love seasons and I hate humidity!

I have have spent full summers in SW FL during my teen/college years and I find the humidity to be not much worse than Illinois. At least you don't have to wait until the 4th of July for it to be warm enough to go swimming outdoors.
My siggie says it all.
:p

I have been giving moving somewhere warmer serious thought. I just need to find a city with jobs and good schools. While Florida may be way too hot in the summer, at least on the weekends you can go to the beach or pool. In the winter when we're stuck inside here, there is nothing to look forward to on the weekends.

I would not miss the seasons, either. Sure, the leaves in the fall are nice to look at, but then they fall off and everything is ugly and cold for months.

I would really like to move to California, but it's just too expensive there, so Florida is a possibility.

I have been trying for years to convince my husband that we need to move south. The older I get, the more I want to move.
24 years ago we honeymooned at WDW in Florida, why we ever came back up here is beyond me! He may give in, he says after the youngest graduates, in 7 more years. Hopefully I won't freeze to death before that time comes. =0)

YES! For about 10 years now but I'm still stuck in Massachusetts. :( :p

If I weren't already here I'd definately move here!!!:goodvibes

Depends on where you already are from. It's the same here as it is there as far as humidity, just more often there. Florida has seasons too!

I am looking for a job already. DH said we could move, finally!!!

Almost did move to SW Florida, but I'm glad we are staying put with friends and family and drinkable tap water. ;) Besides, we just spent a fortune on new ski equipment for the family, and I don't think they work well behind a boat. :teeth:

Maybe we could be FL roommates! My DH says "but the heat in summer would be unbearable, not to mention the bugs they have there. Huge bug problems - fire ants, giant cockroaches.... bugs like I could never imagine". Imagine a farm boy being intimidated by a few ants!

I told him I'd compromise and we could be snow birds once the boys graduate HS - 2012 & 2013 - long way off!

YES!!!!!

DH is desperately trying to get a job in Tampa. He also has an (almost) offer in CA but geesh, housing is just so NOT affordable!
But we will take it (if approved) if we can't get the FL gig.

I live in Missouri and our summers here are no different than FL.

I am sick of winter. We have no mountains to ski on. We really don't get alot snow. It is just cold, drab, and depressing.

I just keep thinking how cool it would be to live in FL. My kids are 7 & 12. We could have some real FUN right now!!!!!!

Looks like your wait may be a little longer than mine. My hubby is fine with the heat in the summer, he actually prefers it. Bugs? Well, I guess you have to sacrifice one thing for another, LOL!
I'll trade the battle with the snow & ice, the really ugly thawing season, etc for a few bugs anyday.

We came really close to moving down to the Orlando area, made 2 trips down to look at houses, DH had a job and everything but then we decided to move to the mountains in PA instead. I love it here and have no regrets, it's beautiful, the people are so nice and my family is close by.

I love the warm weather but if I have to have winter I like it like this, cold with a lot of snow. I hated winters in NJ because they were just gray, dull and nasty. It'd snow once and then it would turn all nasty and ugly. Here it's snowed(showers) practically every day since we've moved in and it's so pretty.

Plus this cold weather will make Florida seem even warmer when we're down there later this month. ;)
