Has my MIL Never Seen Little Boys Play?

I got a phone call from my MIL this morning that just had me . DS is about to turn 4 and my MIL asked me to e-mail her a couple of gift ideas. She calls me on my cell this morning while she is out shopping with a few questions.

Two of the items on the list were Imaginext toys. One is a big T-Rex dinosaur and the other was the new Sabertooth tiger. A Power Rangers mystic morpher and a Darth Vader transformer where also listed. She says the store has the T-Rex does not have the Sabertooth tiger but they did have a flying dinosaur one (like a teradactyl I guess) and she wanted to know if he would like that. I said he loves all dinosaurs so that would be great. The Sabertooth was just on there because we watched a show on Discovery (or some other like channel) on Sabertooth tigers and DS enjoyed it.

She then mentions that she thinks they will also get the PR morpher but that she was not sure about the Darth Vader toy because it could encourage violence. At this point I had to struggle to not laugh. Has she ever seen boys play with dinosaurs? That T-Rex will not be having tea parties!!! My MIL had two boys and I just really find it amusing that she thinks a Darth Vader transformer encourages violent play but that the big meat eating dinosaur is just fine.

I bought my Nephew a few of those Dinosaurs for Christmas and his Mom got him the T-Rex Mountain. He LOVES them! I am actually excited to start buying cars and stuff for DS when he gets older.

DS wanted the Darth Vader plush for Christmas - you squeeze it and it talks. My son said, "It's sooo cute!!!"

Kids make their own violence. No lie, my child who doesn't have guns was making "shooters" out of Legos when he was 4.

It doesn't really matter - after all he will just end up being eaten by a T-Rex! Dinosaurs need snacks at their tea parties!

Exactly what Vader quotes do you put in a kid's plush toy?

I don't know but all I know is it needs "Luke, I am your father" in it because then it would be a must have for us (our little guy is named Luke and the poor thing is never going to forgive us for this I'm sure! Forget other kids teasing him with that - his own FAMILY does it! )


LOVED the dinosaurs & snacks!

(Although our dinosaurs *might* just end up at some sort of tea party - those big sister influences you know and there is no eating other guests allowed because then DD could give Darth Vador a run for his money! )

I am cracking up at this thread, because our dinosaurs have had tea parties, courtesy of that being the only way big sisters will let little brother play with them

DS4 doesn't have guns either, but will use anything to make into a "shootum gum" (got this from "chewing gum") even a Barbie doll can become a gun if you have those boy genes

What is really bad is when your boys are eating toast, and eat it into the shape of a gun, and proudly "bang bang" at the top of their lungs!! I never thought the words would come out of my mouth, but I did say "toast is for eating, not for weapons"!
