Hi! We have flights booked to Orlando in September. 7 passengers. They have changed our flights back and forth 3 times, making a difference of 4.5 hours each time. It's making it impossible to keep some reservations we have booked in Orlando that day.
Had anyone had success getting a refund with this kind of situation? Thanks!

We recently (2 weeks ago) were able to cancel our roundtrip Frontier flights from Cleveland to Orlando because they moved our flight from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm. They gave us a full refund.

Are you talking about refunds on your flights, or on the Orlando reservations? I've been able to cancel for a refund when I didn't like the new flight time. They also should let you change your flight to a different day/time for no fee (though you might have to pay more if the new flight costs more). For the Orlando reservations, it probably depends on what they are and how accommodating they choose to be.

Wanting a refund for flights

They'll likely tell you it will be refunded in 6 to 8 weeks. IF they even bother to issue a refund. I would like to think that they would if they are the ones yanking the details all over the place.

I’m a bit confused but this is what I understand. Airlines cancelled your original flights several times causing you to miss something on the ground. So you are looking to be refunded for what…not sure if the flights have been cancelled completely?

Depending on the airline there are different criteria for these things. Usually if they change things 90 minutes or more, you can get a refund or schedule a new flight at no fee. Some airlines are 60 minutes, I believe.

The airline keeps changing the time of the flight the day we arrive in Orlando. We're trying to make plans/reservations on the ground in Orlando, but can't, bc of flight time changes. We would like a refund for the flight.

Just call them and tell them the changes won't work for you. But keep in mind ANY airline can change your flight schedule. That's why it's generally a bad idea to book big things on your arrival day.

American will refund your ticket as long as you bought it directly from them. Generally it takes up to 2 weeks. Not sure about the other airline but give them a call and customer service will explain and begin the process.
However if you bought a ticket from a third party you must follow their refund policy.

This. 100%. They will give you a refund, but as mentioned (and is the case in MANY places), it may take weeks before you get the money. OR, find a flight that day (or maybe even the night before?) that will work for you. Call Delta and say you want to be placed on 'x' flight. Before you ask for a refund, what's your plan to get to Orlando? Drive? Another airline (as @FCDub says, they can change schedules too)? Train?

This could be the elephant in the room if you booked third party, and will depend on who you booked through.

A last resort would be to dispute the credit card charge, but in that case everything is up to the merchant...and the third party is not responsible for flight changes over which they have no control.

If you have non-affiliated airlines (American and Delta) what likely happened is that you purchased 2 one way tickets. Because one way schedule changed, you probably could get refunded on that direction. however, the other airline is under no obligation to refund you, especially if the return flight has not changed.

Since this appears to be purchased through a 3rd party vendor, you also can only go through them to ask for the refund. Which means you wont get your money back until after the airline pays them. You also want to be VERY careful and not mention the word CANCEL. 3rd party vendors LOVE that word because it means you get no refund. They can cancle the flight (or flights) and your contract ends with them.

I am sorry you are going to go through a difficult time in this process, and in all honesty I would go through with the flights as booked (or go to the airport in the 24 hours before the flight and speak to the airport check in desk). Good luck in however you decide to go through with your process.

Where do you get that? I've read the OPs posts again and they don't say how they booked, just that going is on Delta and returning on American.

because the airlines are not partners, the ticket isn’t purchasable from the airlines directly. American won’t sell you a ticket on delta on a route it carries ( and vice versa). American Airlines won’t code share a delta flight on a route it offers.

but if you search on orbitz or something similar it will make it appear it’s the same ticket when in fact it’s 2 one ways.

very simple answer - if the ticket numbers are different in the first 3 numbers, it’s separate airline sales ( 2 one ways)

So it's not possible the OP actually booked two one ways on their own?

Of course it's two one ways. You know you can book it that way from the individual airlines. It's still an assumption that this was booked via a 3rd party.

Anytime an airline changes your flight "substantially" you are allowed to request a full refund back to the original form of payment. Since you purchased two one ways on different airlines, this would only apply to the one that changed the schedule. If you have a non-refundable ticket for an airline that hasn't changed their schedule, they are not going to give you your money back because you cancelled the other direction. Of course this assumes you booked direct through the airlines, if you booked third party you will have to go through that third party.

The poster didn't say it wasn't possible. They said "it appears". It is a reasonable conclusion and the poster went on to give advice if that was the case. If it isn't the case, the OP would know it doesn't apply to them.
