Has Disney ever given you a hard time about dumping extra days?

I want to book two nights in December, but the only way I can find availability is to book 7 nights. If I do this and then call to cancel the extra 5 nights tomorrow, will I have any trouble?

You may have trouble. I have had it go both ways. I have canceled days without a bat of an eye. But I have been told when I canceled day off a resi that there was no availability for only 2 or 3 days. When I asked how that could be I was just told that the computer would not let them make the change. I either had to keep the resi as it was or cancel it all together. Disney does hold back sites especially on holiday weekends and weekends in general. I have been checking for weeks for Halloween weekend and as long as I booked a week they had sites but if I only wanted Friday and Saturday it was a no go. This past weekend I was finally able to book only three days. The closer it gets to the booking time the more sites they release to be booked short term. Really Ticks me off but I do get their logic.

We've never had a problem. I booked 4 weeks for this November 499 days out and dropped a week about 6 mos ago. We did our ressie through AAA this time, and are going during a quieter time (early Nov), but no one even questioned it.

I've never had a problem doing it, but if they give you a hassle, just leave it and check out early. You will get the refund at that time.

(Provided you are booked on "room only") You can't do that with a package.

Never had a problem shortening up a reservation. If you have a CM that gives you a problem, just say ok and leave your reservation unchanged. Call back and I'm sure when you get a different CM there will not be a problem. I have done it many, many times.

Thanks guys. I was able to book Dec 11-17 (6 nights) I'll give it a few days and call to get the extra nights trimed off.

This is just one of the flaws with the "system". You have to play the game and book more than you need sometimes in order to end up with what you want. Disney could probably fix this, but instead they would rather punish you for doing it this way.

This is also part of the Holiday Game. You may not know a year or more in advance when you will be able to get vacation time at Christmas so you have to book the week before and the week after and drop the week you don't need once you find out when you can get off.
