Has DCL REALLY Banned Over The Door Shoe Racks?

I've heard mixed stories on this... so I wanted to find a somewhat definitive answer before we go on our cruise. Have they banned the over the door shoe racks, or is it more about the outside door with the gel clings, tape, etc?

Just curious.

Thanks in advance!

It's the over-the-door shoe rack hangers and things that mar the doors. The over-the-door racks were evidently damaging the tops of the doors (don't know if it's more than a repainting type of damage or what.)

For everyone mourning the otd shoe racks, take a look at the LLBean toiletry hanging bags. They hold a bunch, things are easy to see, and they can hang in multiple places w/o damaging the doors or walls.

I took a hanger and zip tied it to the back of the over the door organizer (no hooks needed). With the hanger attached I could hang it to the hook outside of the bathroom on the wall. :thumbsup2 Still have all the organizational space needed.

Yes, they have. This is in addition to the previous ban on the use of adhesives on doors; this policy was restated in the announcement of the prohibition on the over-the-door organizers.

I second the LL Bean bag, my daughter got one as a gift and it is really nice. We generally don't look at LL Bean's stuff due to higher end prices, but in this case you get what you pay for.

I wonder if something like this might be a reasonable alternative? http://www.dressbarn.com/detail/han...1304180600:DB&CAWELAID=1706335267&cagpspn=pla

It depends on if they want us putting things on doorknobs. That one is pretty small...the pockets, anyway. I know I liked putting all of my toiletries in mine, deodorant, razor, combs, hairbrush...and the one you show wouldn't hold that larger stuff.

I have one favorite hanger that has rubber grips on the hooks, I wonder if that would be acceptable?

Although, at least the new ships have more corner shelving than the older ships did.

This sucks. I literally just got one in the mail from Amazon. Now to decide if I should bring it and try to find a non-damaging location to hang it or just return it. :(

I would think those would not be allowed also. Here's the letter that DCL is going to be distributing:

Dear Guests,

We are glad that you have joined us aboard the Disney (Choose Ship)!

As you may be aware, it is important to us to keep our facilities looking their best for all our guests. As part of our commitment to this area of focus, we ask that you do not affix anything to your stateroom door utilizing tape or any adhesive, including removable gel adhesives. We have found that these adhesives damage the finish on our stateroom doors; therefore we ask that you limit door decoration to those of the magnetic variety.

Concurrently, we ask that guests not use over-the-door hanging organizers as they have been found to scratch and/or disfigure stateroom doors and trim.

Guests found with damaged doors are assessed a $100 damage fee per incident to cover the cost of repairs.

Your attention to this matter will greatly assist us in keeping our shipboard environment looking ship-shape. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Guest Services, Deck 3 Mid-ship.

If interested, magnetic door decorations are available for purchase in our merchandise area. For your convenience, magnetic strips are also available at Guest Services.

We appreciate your cooperation and hope you have an enjoyable sailing.

Sincerely,

Since they just say "over-the-door hanging organizers", I'd think that means all of them.

The problem with hanging over the door is it ruins the allignment of the door and eventually you won't be able to close the door. This happens at work often and we always have to have the doors fixed so they close properly

But if the hooks are rubber, they won't mar the finish. But I also see the point, as in "no shorts in the dining rooms" should mean NO SHORTS in the dining rooms. Period.

I'm not arguing the point, honestly, but in what way would a bag with toiletries in it misalign the door? The hooks fit above the door, even when it's closed, so they aren't scratching the top.....or causing any problem in that sense. I would think it would have to be a darn heavy bag to put a metal door out of alignment.:confused3

Is that hook outside of the bathroom on all the ships? We'll be on the Magic, and was just wondering it solution will work for us.

I was curious about a hook....I don't recall seeing any at all, except in the suites, where I *think* they have hooks inside the bathroom doors for the bathrobes. Unless those are on the non-Disney ships I've been on.
:confused3:confused3

Edited: I looked back at my pictures from the Dream, and there are two "hooks" outside the bathroom, at the edge of the wall closest to the living area. Trying to get a picture posted.

The picture looks funny because I edited out someone standing there.

I have never even gotten a door to close, when trying to use an over-the-door thing! I don't know how everyone is able to use them, even at home. And on the ship where doors are seriously made to fit? I don't know how they have been used.

But if the hooks are rubber, they won't mar the finish.

But it's not just the finish, or the hooks. They say the organizers "have been found to scratch and/or disfigure stateroom doors and trim" which can cover all sorts of issues they have obviously been having.

I hang this on the robe hook/knob in the bathroom to put all the little extras in. It is the plastic shoe holder from the Dollar store.
I take an old lanyard (DVC in this case) and put it through the 2 holes with knots tied in the back.
Easy. No more hooks. They come with hooks but I never liked them.
It's what I've always done on our 16 DCL cruises. Never a mark or any damage to be seen.
All the little extras go in here for easy access for the family (band-aids, cortisone, neosporin, bobby pins, safety pins,... you get the idea). I put my make-up, hair brush and bigger things in it when DH and I are cruising with out kids.
:scared1:I can understand DCL's concern after seeing people put actual stickers (yes stickers) on the outside of their stateroom doors on the new Fantasy last summer.

There is one hook outside the bathroom door on the Magic/Wonder.
