Has banking/borrowing ever been suspended?

I was just reading in the new member guidebook(pg.26) that banking/ borrowing can be suspended to maintain proper balance in the Vacation Points system. I'm sure this has always been there, but I just noticed it. Has this ever happened before? Does anyone see this happening in the future? Under what circumstances would this be neccessary? Just wondering... Erin

No.

We will probably see it as we get close to 2042, but it has never happened.

The only time before 2042 I could see this happening is if WDW has something really huge planned for one year only.

That could be huge-good, or huge-bad. So if people know, for instance that the 50 year anniversary of WDW in 2021 will include some once-in-a-lifetime, really spectacular stuff (more than we've ever seen before), then I could see where they might suspend banking or borrowing into that one year.

But I can't even imagine what kind of promotion they would have to come up with to make that much of an impact on DVC reservations.

Likewise, if WDW announced that half their attractions would be out for refurbishment for a particular year, you'd see a trend in the other direction.

I can't foresee anything that would be developed that would be anywhere near like these scenarios, but I guess DVD has to protect itself against anything.

I'm sure that 1999 was a big year for borrowing among OKW owners. Many of us received free park passes through 12/31/99. You got those passes on any point used before Y2K, regardless of the use year. So many owners (including us), borrowed points from their 2000 use year for one last fling.

If they didn't need to suspend borrowing that year, I doubt if they ever will. Except for maybe 2042, when it will <i>really</i> be time for the last fling.

I could see banking being suspended because of some awful act of God, like a hurricane hitting the Magic Kingdom.

The millinium and last year due to 9/11 were also other times that were stressed with over/under use of points. Can't imagine what the scenerio would be but I'd agree it's DVC protecting themselves.
