Has anything "traumatic" ever happened to you or a family member on a Disney ...

Sometime on these type rides if there is no one in front of you when you get to the ride they will have you walk down the moving walkway close to the end to get as many full cars as possible. If you don't start getting into the car soon enough you can easily run out of time.

This isnt really an attraction but...
Last april when we were in the world, we went to blizzard beach, i gave my mom my glasses and went into the lazy river, while she got a locker. We didnt meet up and i went to the lost childrens booth, 4 hours of wandering and no help...i mean it wouldnt have been much if they just paged her-i am super shy and my mom never thought i would go there so she never thought to ask- im badly sunburned and its near closing. Im am terrified-yah i might have been 16 but still, being in a different country, no mom is scary- i get on the bus and hope that she thought i went to the room. No she didnt, so i go up to the desk and ask if i can get in. The little f-ing b---- said because i wasnt 18 she couldnt issue a card for me. So i head back to where our room was and i sit outside and cry and cry. About 10 mins later a guard comes up to me asking if i was Caitlin, and im like yah. So he radioes in that he 'found' me, and kept talking to me until my mom got there. man did the water works pour.

I would just like to thank the OP for this post. We are going to Disney in 9 days for our very first visit with a 7 and 3 year old. Thank you so much!! I would never known to watch out for this very thing. I hope your babies are doing better Just know that you have saved another family from having the same thing happen. Bless you , Bless you, Bless you. :D :) :)

Oh Caitlan! what a terrible story! And what an awful day of wandering around not knowing what to do.

I wish I had seen you looking distressed - I would have helped you... poor thing!

Better luck next time you go...

I can't believe some of the responses here. Granted I don't think the original poster needed to mention anything about reimbursement-- at least not here-- things like that are hot topics. But my goodness. These were young children alone on a "scary" ride. My youngest is 10 and I would of freaked out in the same situation not to mention the fact that these are a 2&4 year old. They could of been seriously hurt trying to get out of the seat looking for mommy. The can stop the ride at any moment and walk through. Which is exactly what should of happened. The whole thing is terrifying.

I think in all truth there was an valid "lesson" to be learned by the original post. It can happen and it is something to be aware of. I personally get alittle on edge about the moving platforms. However, that is "life" at Disney. Thankfully since we are only a family of 3-- DH always boards first then DS-- therefore if someone gets left behind it's always myself and my son is with an adult. But is you are one adult managing more than one child this isn't possible. Rather than picking apart the poster maybe we should all just be thankful for the heads up.

Not defending the CM at all -- I think sometimes younger people don't understand the limitations of kids. In hindsight it is easy to say I would do this or that, but you can demand a ride be stopped at any time. As the poster said they do it all the time for handicapped riders. This happened to me at a carnival once, my dd was 3 years old, she wanted to go on this plane ride, I thought it just went slowly around in circles. I guess I walked up to it as it was unloading. This thing takes off and is high off the ground, tipping to the side and there are no seatbelts. I'm freaking out, she is waving and laughing. I yelled at the operator, stop it now, he said no it will be done in 2 minutes and I'm screaming NOW< NOW NOW. Well he listened. I'm glad you posted this story so people realize it can happen.

Kallison, your story reminds me of one with my own DS when he was about 3. Not a WDW but at Great America in the kids section. He wanted to ride one of those kids ferris wheels where the kids get into a box and stay inside for the duration of the ride. So, he gets in and it moves up a notch to let the next riders on. I can tell by DS's expression he's not happy. I asked the operator to get him out of there. She agrees. Moves the little cars up another notch and starts loading the next guests. DS is starting to really panic now and wants out. I tell her that she needs to get him out and she proceeds to move the cars up another notch to load the next kids. Now my DS is at the top and stands up and starts banging on the door in a panic. I'm screaming for her to get him out of there. She's just mosing along. Other parents are starting to tell the operator to get him off the ride. She just brings him down the next notch and loads the next set of kids. I was fuming. Eventually he got down to the bottom and once I had him safely in my arms, I asked her where her manager was. She looked at me as if I was from outer space, as in, why did I want to talk to the manager. I was steaming. I found the manager, whom she didn't know where he was and boy did we have a talk. It was very scary.

Thanks for the warning about the haunted mansion. That must have been a very tramatic experience...not only for your kids but for you also.

Why do these posts always turn out to be slams on the original OP's anyway?>

I am the one that raised this whole issue about the "compensation", and I want to be clear. I stated very clearly that I did NOT have a problem with the OP or how she handled the situation. I stated several times that I feel bad for what happened to her and her children. Where my anger is focused is on the people that were telling her that she should get some compensation.

My husband died in the room at the ASMo on Dec 9, 2001. He died from the heart anuerysm at the age of 32. I was alone with my then 2 and 4 yr old children...didn't know anyone in Orlando. This is the most traumatic thing that happened to us in Disney...actually in our lives. I just feel sorry for my children...

I rode Test Track about a week and a half ago. We just broke the barrier test and started looping around the course outside when the vehicle stopped dead and smoke started coming from it. I thought it was going to catch on fire. We were locked in our seats and couldn't move. Finally a mechanic came running out, hit a few things in the back and we started inching toward the curve around the front of the building. It was going slow and then all of a sudden went full speed to the curve. We all were screaming THEN AGAIN IT CAME TO A DEAD STOP RIGHT ON THE CURVE! I thought I was going to fall out of the vehicle. We all started screaming help! It was very uncomfortable being on such a high angle. Again we couldn't move. So yet again the mechanic comes running out and we inch our way back into the building. I thought it was impossible for the vehicle to go full speed on the curve and then stop dead. Man that was uncomfortable. We were hanging on to our seatbelts for dear life. I have been on Test Track when it has broken down before, but this was by far the worst experience. Not good when you smell smoke and burning.

I read your posting and can't imagine how that must have been. My sympathy to you and your family.

I'm glad that you still love Disney and plan to go back. I think it is a tribute to your husband that you returned to Disney.

Bless you and your family..

Am I missing something -

The bars on the Haunted Mansion go back once the vehicle moves past the moving belt. It sounded like the bar went down when she was still on the belt. Not sure how that would occur.

Secondly, the story of the RnRC. People pull the shoulder restraints down, or the cast member does. Once everyone is safely seated and they give the thumbs up, the rides leaves the station. Missing something there too. It made it sound like the bars went down automatically and the ride took off unexpectedly. Never seen that.

Fantasia,

My deepest sympathies to you and your family. That must of been horrible! 32 years old is so young! I could never imagine what you must of gone through. Huge hugs, and I too am glad to see you still go back to Disney.

As I said in my OP, I was sent to a car too far ahead on the belt. All of this happened in a matter of less than a minute, I am sure. But once the bar came back, my brain could not decifer that I wasn't getting in with my kids, I tried pulling the bar back, I even thought I could maybe SQUEEZE in between the little space between the bar and the side of the car ( I weigh over 200 pounds, how is that for denial?) Everything seemed to be happening in slow motion, but I am sure the end of the platform came up before what seemed like an eternity. On the second ride, I paid attention to when the bar comes up, and it actually comes up right as you pass the control booth the CM is at, that is probably why he was standing right next to me as he was non-chalantly saying "too late". I just know I had a death grip on the car, and I was pulled of the moving patform.

I wish I did know how I got myself into that situation. It is all a blur. I just know from now on, if the car is more than halfway down on the platform, we will wait for the next one.

The bars on the ride close about 4/5 of the way down the walkway. This is to prevent someone from being distracted and still trying to get in the car when they reach the end of the walkway causing them to fall.

I think the person on RnR was referring to the gates that let you out of the que to get in the ride. They closed the gates on my DW one time because someone got confused and started getting in our spot and I stopped and block my DW from coming through. Once we got the seating straightened out they had to open the gate back up to let my DW join me. I can see how the CMs might not notice that a party got separated if no one was making a big fuss.

Fantasia-- extra pixie dust to you and your children for your upcomming trip!!!!

I broke my ankle getting of the bus at the French Quarter in 2000. We were just getting back from the epcot fireworks and there were other buses in front so the bus driver let us off before the bus stop. When I was getting off I was holding my 11mo DD and stepped on the lip were the curb meets the road and it broke I am still amazed my DD didn't get hurt in the fall. I was saying some very undisney like words:o and am very embarassed now. We were leaving the next day so the hospital wrapped my ankle and gave me some very good pain killers so good I couldn't even rember the plane ride home:eek: :) . When I got home I had to have surgery on my ankle to set it(I've broken it twice before in horseback riding accidents and it never healed properly).
I am happy to say I've been to disney twice since and no major accidents since:) however my husband refuses to let me ride a bus:rolleyes: ;) I wonder Why??

Fantasia, I hope you and your children have a magical trip!

That's exactly what gates I was talking about, and I did make a big fuss...I was telling the CM to let her on...he said "I can't now", then we took off.
