Has anything changed at your grocery store ???

I haven’t noticed any grocery stores by me shrinking like that. The only more recent changes I noticed are more people picking up groceries. So you see those giant carts with multiple bins around in the store aisles, and cars parking near a back loading area to have their grocery orders brought out to them.

I was just in a Total Wine. 1.7 litre bottle of Patron silver is still the same price as before and there's plenty. I dont drink anything from Canada so cant comment on that.

Just curious about the bolded statement about Canada. Why? Or is it just because you haven't had the opportunity to try anything from Canada?

On the occasions that I go to my WalMart's Neighborhood Market, I see a significant uptick in the number of employees walking those carts. It's almost become to the point of they are becoming an obstacle in some aisles. My local store had to expand the number of loading spaces while even my super WalMart practically has taken a full side of the parking lot for those pickup spaces. Of course, my area is one of the largest increases in population as a percentage across the U.S.

Have noticed this too at my local Giant. The store employs shoppers specifically for pick up and delivery orders and they block entire aisles sometimes.

When I shop at the new, much larger Kroger near me I’ve noticed that the shelves have more in stock of the same brand/box across, but decently deep as well. Where the closer, older Kroger has one or two of said item.

Our Walmart is always busy and is nice and clean with good quality products. I guess we are lucky after reading about some of the other Walmarts on here.
I asked a lady that was shopping for pickup with one of those big blue carts, how many pick up orders do they see in a day? She said between 300 and 500 a DAY! That's alot of pickups, but there are always cars in the pick up area. I understand it where I live, since the winters are brutal and it's no fun to haul groceries to your car when it's -35 degrees with a North wind.

on the bright side-those shoppers can tell you where a particular item you are searching for is located down to the specific shelf on a specific aisle. I think it's provided an uptick to walmart's customer serving having them in the aisles (they are very helpful to traditional shoppers esp. when an item is only available on the top of the shelves).

The price of Canadian beer, which I drink, is the same. However the proposed tariffs haven't gone into effect, been started, etc. . So the only price changes would be do to inflation .

Everything's pretty much the same at our local grocery stores, with the exception being that prices are a little higher. Eggs are a crazy $5.79 a dozen. I miss the days of $1.99 a dozen.

So I took DH to grocery with me today for just a few things (for him) and to make a pasta salad. Literally in and out trip. BUT we wandered the aisles. DH who is in general oblivious to most little things and usually just rolls his eyes at me when I say something ........... said it was quite obvious that the store has had major inventory changes. He said the shelves looked like pretty pieces of art and verified the lack of inventory and how it only went 2 or 3 deep. He noticed (shocked) all the missing shelf units and the shrunken coolers in the produce department. He agree something was fishy ........... guess we will watch and see what happens.

The Meijer I go to has had some inventory issues recently. Certain brands might be sold out for a few days before getting restocked, when this never seemed to happen before.

My Walmart any given day. Has been like this for months. This was a week before Christmas at 10 am.

Wow, that seems so strange, and a week before Christmas too? I wonder why?
Ours is busy all the time. But we live in a city way up North with lots of isolated rural towns up here. So Walmart gets a lot of this business from outlying areas and towns. Ours is the only Walmart within 50 miles at least. But I wonder Why your store is so vacant? Are you in a busy area with lots of Walmarts and other choices?

You are lucky that your eggs are so cheap.
I just paid 9.00 for l8 count eggs at Walmart today. Our local family owned store had them for 15 dollars for l8 count! Unbelievable. Our aldi's had them for 5 something for a dozen though.

Been like this since late fall. No matter when I go I feel like there are maybe 25 of us shopping. Very few employees except at Meat, Bakery, Pharmacy and Checkout. We used to have employees at electronics, Sports (hunt/fish), Garden, Paint ..... no one. You have to page for help and who knows if whoever shows up knows anything about that department. How is this sustainable? Target isn't much different. Forget the mall, so many empty stores ~ and I'm in an affluent area. Time will tell where this is going but it really was the major changes at my grocery store that made me question.

Yes I am in a suburb of Atlanta with just about everything you need within 15-20 minutes. But these stores have been around a long time. AND there are tons of homes/townhomes/apartments still being built. So we have more shoppers for the same basic supply of stores. Why? are they so empty.

Walmart has drastically cut back on what they're stocking, though.

Yes, I noticed that too. :headache: Walmart isn't really allowed here in NYC as they would decimate the small mom & pop stores with their prices and put them out of business. The closest one is in NJ. As I don't have a car, I have to take a bus there & back. I usually get the majority of my pantry items there as the prices can be half of what they are in NYC. AND Walmart no longer will ship many of the items I want. The last couple of trips I barely found enough of my usual items to make the trips worthwhile.

Went to my Kroger again. It has two entrances, the main one that takes you straight in by produce, floral, to-go food and Starbucks .... the other takes you right to the cash registers and pharmacy so I suppose they consider that an exit mostly BUT such a big store you go in where you are parked.

Well the "exit" one's clear pathway to the store/pharmacy got blocked off a few weeks ago. Aggravating as you now have to weave in through the self pay registers to get in to the store. Well now they added some frosted plexiglass around that space so maybe 6 feet high and added about six "SLOT MACHINES". We don't have gambling per se but "machines may ONLY redeem credits for in-store merchandise, fuel, or lottery tickets". Def does not fit in with this area so we'll see how they last.

Also more fixtures are gone throughout store, more brands gone, more categories smaller. I looked at cookies for DH to take on the road and it is about half what they used to stock. Free standing deli department cooler cases probably shrunk by more than half. We used to have lots of international cheese and specialty items, olives, appetizer trays etc. Half gone. Cheeses probably 60% gone.

I suppose they are doing this slowly so folks don't notice but if you are a regular I don't know how you don't see it. So now I guess I pop in each week to see what is gone next. And I think I'm going to our Publix to see if there is any difference there that I would notice. It is an oversized store for a Publix (was built to be a fancy A&P).

I haven't noticed any change in prices up or down. Eggs are about 3 dollars and change a dozen. I only use eggs for baking which I rarely do. I don't understand the egg drama compared to the price of other protein sources like beef they are pretty cheap.

I guess some people like eggs for breakfast. I just don't have the time. I just grab a protein bar on the go. Eggs would be cheaper than the protein bar.
