Has anyonoe moved to Sarasota, FL?

Hi everyone,

We live in the northeast (Boston) and every time this winter we consider moving to a warmer climate. Last year we looked into California but just couldn't justify the prices in the area we desired. This year we are considering Sarasota FL but know little about it. Has anyone else moved from New England to Sarasota and what was your experience like? Did you miss the seasons and *gasp* snow? What is Sarasota really like? Is it a good place to raise a family? Is there culture there?

I've never lived there but visited a few times. I have friends who live there. Not only is it beautiful, but the people all seem very nice. I didn't get much into the culture as I always had the kids with me and their idea of culture was the beach and the pool but I found it to be a nice area and my friends loved living there (they've since divorced). Just my opinion, I've only visited, not lived there. Best of luck.

They have museums and plays down there. It is a nice community and the freeway is right there so easy access to the rest of the west coast.

Thanks everyone for your replies. We have heard nothing but positive things about this area. My husband is down in FLA right now and he ran into someone in the airport who raved about Sanibel Island. I know this is a nice vacation area, but does anyone know anything about it for year round living?
