Has anyone's child been to an open audition?

Thanks guys!:thumbsup2 I knew I could count on everyone here.

I'll have to talk to my DH and see what he thinks~ my son has said for a while he'd like to be on TV- I just wouldn't even know where to begin.

Thanks again everyone! :)
Begin by finding a local child talent agent. They won't even require a professional headshot before talking to you. Their only income will come if they actually book your child for a job. Look at local community theater programs for acting lessons or youth drama troups.

My daughter had an agent for a while. She got parts in 2 or 3 movies as an extra, was in a music video (for 2 seconds) and booked about 20 stock photo shoots.

The agent we had did not charge us anything. The only requirements they had were that she have some headshots done. I could use anyone I wanted. I paid for the phitofrapher's time. They paid for the photos, cards etc.

She doesn't do it any longer as she is busy with school, dance and friends but she has just under 10k in the bank waiting for when she turns 18. We were only required to put 15% away but we decided to put it all away.

She loved the experience and can talk about it. We call her purr out of work model lol.

Thanks again for all the wonderful suggestions! Great ideas on how to begin the process; you guys are great!!!

You can also go to the Better Business Bureau website and check to see if they're any reports on the company there. I took my DD to one of those a few years ago, and they went through their typical spiel making it sound so good, and then they would choose "only a few" to go through to the next round, which you had to pay about $2000 up front for, and it was actually just a "class" you had to take a couple times a month.

I turned this down, after they tried every trick to get me to pay, even suggested I call family and ask to borrow it.

I later checked the BBB site to see if the company had any bad reports, and there were a TON of very bad complaints on this company.

Why don't you start with local community theater? Everyplace I have lived has had program for young kids. It gets them up on stage, in front of an audience and it is so much fun for the kids. He can get a taste of acting and see if it is truly something he wants to do.

Around here, even to get an audition with a reputable agency, you need an in. Community theater is great, and a lot of them have classes (some you need to audition in, some take everyone). It's pricey, but still cheaper than the scammers, and the real deal. The kids who are serious tend to be triple threats - acting, voice, and dance.

Here is a website my daughter put together a couple of years ago for a community service project. It gives some pretty good info on how to get started and what not to do.

Your DD is spot on when she says to close your eyes and then open them right before the picture is taken. I have this problem. My eyes are extremely sensitive to light. It worked for me.

I don't know why photographers have never suggested this. I have only had one do this.

Great website. I am not interested in acting, but I just wanted to take a look. She did a great job.

i was driving my son-6 home from school today; and while listening to the radio a commercial was on- a company hosting "open" auditions for either modeling, acting~ some of their clients have been on shows like i carly; zack and cody etc.

He said he wanted to do it; so i called and made an appt.

It's totally free; they sent me an email for some lines for him to learn~

can anyone tell me what to expect? He is very cute and precoscious? Sp; i'm not expecting him to become a movie star-
just wondering if anyone has done this before.

Thanks! :)

this is a scam do not go!!!!

Thanks! I'll let her know you liked it!

We've been hearing radio ads for this one lately (below) ... I considered going to this with my DS10, but he acted a little wishy-washy about going and our area's interview date is on a school night. ugh. So I dropped the idea.

This is what I would suggest as well. DD is active in our local community theater. She knows some kids who have been through casting calls, agents, and acting classes. I only know of one girl who has had screen work. But, the parents have said the agents suggest community theater as a way to gain experience. Start there and see if he likes it!
