All of my trips to Disney as an adult have been solo, and I love it, but I'm the sort of person who doesn't mind doing things alone anyway. I won't skip a restaurant I want to eat at or a movie I want to see just because no one else is interested.
I don't know if it would be more awkward for a man, but for the most part, I wouldn't think so. Most people on my trips really haven't paid that much attention to me - CMs have mostly been the only people who even noticed I was by myself.
Being able to do whatever you want is great. If you want to get up at 6am to make rope drop and stay out until the parks close, go for it! If you'd rather sit by the pool with a drink, you can do that too, and no one will complain! You don't have to take anyone else's taste into account when choosing meals! You can stay at whatever resort! You can go golfing or shop all day, spend hours at AK watching the animals or go to MK and ride Small World repeatedly until your brain melts! It's really very liberating.
