Has anyone used their points to stay in Disneyland?

We just booked a room at the Disneyland hotel for a week in June. I wondered if anyone has stayed there before. We were told that the room had two queen size beds and a daybed big enough to hold an adult. Has anyone had this type of room? Also, we are looking to only stay there and commute to Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Would you recommend a car, or is there a shuttle service we can purchase? Thanks for your your help.

We have stayed at the DL Hotel 5 or 6 times, the last time being 4 years ago. The last few years we stayed at the GC. The rooms at the DL Hotel are a little larger than those at the GC and very much like you described. The day beds do fit an adult. I would highly recommend renting a car. Hollywood & Beverly Hills are probably a 45" drive, highly dependent on traffic. Once you get to these areas they are very spread out so again a car would be beneficial. I don't know if there is shuttle service but you could call the hotel and ask.

Thanks for the info. We are also interested in going to the beach one day so I am guessing a car would come in handy for that as well. I hope the driving out there isn't too bad.

Yeah having a car there would be very beneficial, especially since you would like to do so many other things. That way you can be on your own time schedule. The driving isn't horrible, but there is A LOT of traffic sometimes, so you do have to prepare for that. There are some crazy drivers, but we have our share of those in MO also, just use common sense when you are driving. DH usually does all the driving since he grew up there, but it wouldn't bother me to drive there either. It's kinda nice to be chauffeured around though! :rotfl:

We will be at the DL hotel in the begining of June also! I can't wait! :bitelip:

A car it is then. Thanks for the help. I think I see Laguana Beach is in the Anaheim area. If I got that right then I can't wait to go.
We take the kids to Disney World every year, sometimes twice a year. I am so happy to be taking them out west this summer. From DL we go onto Palm Springs for a week then Las Vegas for a few days. My DH wants to add another week and go to San Diego. But there is no way I can leave my cats for that much time.

If you wanted to take a couple of day trips to San Diego it is a very easy drive from DL. DL is just off I-5 and you just take it staight south to San Diego. It is about a 80-90" drive, which really isn't that much farther than Hollywood. We do it frequently when we visit. Lots to do and see. Laguna Beach is close as are several other beaches. Newport Beach is even closer and nice also. We also visit WDW a couple of times a year and you do get spoiled not having to drive much. That is definitely not the case in California, however.

We always spend at least one day at Newport when we go to DL. It is a great beach. Make sure to have a frozen choc banana or choc ocvered frozen cheesecake on a stick. Yummy! Charlie's Chili is very good too.

We have driven to SD. It was a great drive down the PCH. I think it took us around 90min, that is with a stop to check out the coast and take some pics.

I stayed in Anahiem a few years ago at the Hampton, which is in walking distance to DL. Definately get a car! There is much to see outside the gates.
We took a day trip to the San Diego Zoo and I recommend that highly! It's not a bad drive, and we saw a toddler panda! We also went to Rodeo Drive to see how the other half lives.
I loved the parks too-my only regret was that the Matterhorn was being refurbished when I was there. My friend told me that meant I would just have to come back another time!

We stayed at the DLH in '02 and you're getting much better bang for your points than we did then. If you were just going to be in Anaheim, you could get away with taking a taxi or shuttle from LAX to DLR, but if you want to go anywhere outside the resort, you really do need a car (as most of the other responders have posted).

Does anyone know if they still have the water fountain show at the DLH? It was a nice relaxing presentation after a day at the parks, if it's still there.

Regards

If you are going to DLR and San Diego and you want to go to SeaWorld and the Zoo... Take a look at getting a 'City Pass' it allows access to DLR, SeaWorld and Zoo... I saved about $200.00 over same passes purchased seperately...

We have used the city pass before also. We got 3 day park hoppers to DL, and a one day ticket to Sea World, Knotts Berry Farm, and either the SD Zoo or SD Wild Animal Park. It was a great bargin!

We used points to stay at GC a few years ago, after a week long trip to Hawaii. Definitely recommend it. Leaving the island was sad, but knowing I had three days at Disneyland made it soooooo much better. GC is a beautiful hotel, and since we're VWL owners, we felt right at home. :)

We used our points to return to Disney Land for the 50th. We stayed at CG. It was awesome. We rented a car and drove to San Diego and stayed (with points) at the beautiful Del Coranado Hotel. We visited The San Diego Zoo and The Wild Animak Park. I would do it again. DD did all of the driving and from my point of view it seemed easy. We also used a Park Hopper Pass for DL, KBF and the zoo. Enjoy your trip!
