My DD is 14 and hasd really nice skin. She has started to have a few breakouts and lots and lots of blackheads. She does use the typical clearasil cleanser and stridex pads etc but it seems to really dry out her skin and doesn't do much for the blackheads. She tried those strips that are supposed to remove blackheads adn the poor kidshe had a red mark over her nose for days. Her skin is sensative .She is very active and involved in sports. I think that maybe the reason for the blackheads...sweat. Right now she is on the swimming and diving team at the H.S. The chlorine really drys out her skin too. My question is has anyone used PROACTIV for blackheads? I have seen it on TV many times and I went to the website and read about it. I like the fact it does not use alcohol and it claims not to dry out your skin. It is $$ but I dont mind paying if it works for her. She is getting to the age where she is getting very self concious about her skin. Does it work for blackheads? As I have said she doesnt have terrible acne just the blackhead and an occasional breakout. Is this Proactiv something that will prevent this from getting worse? They have many many testimonials on the site but I would like to know if any "Real" people have used it and what they thought. I'm not saying I dont believe Jessica Simpson and Alyssa Keyes but would rather hear it from someone else ;)

I've been using ProActiv for a year and a half now...and its a dream come true!! I would never use anyhting else...I had mild acne that at times would flare up and get pretty bad...I have tried every medicine known to Dermotalogist, and none of them worked...but ProActiv did...I would recommend it in a heartbeat! Those infomercials are actually true :flower:

Oops, I forgot to answer the rest of your question!!! :rolleyes1

I generally have clear skin, but I do get breakouts every once in a while (monthly time usually). If you stick to it and use it every single night, Proactiv is a miracle worker!!!!! Just make sure your daughter is willing to stick to the routine!!!

If you have anymore questions, please ask me!

my son tried it for awhile with kind of so-so results. He still had alot of breakouts. If you look at the ingredients on the bottles, the cleansers are acutally benzyl peroxide at a pretty weak strength and witch hazel. You can buy both of those much cheaper at the grocery store. Stridex right now sells a benzyl peroxide cleansing pad that is a stronger solution than Proactive.

I eventually got him into a dermatologist. It took 3 months to get him an appointment. Right now she has him on an tetracylcene antibiotic, prescription strength Benzyl Peroxide cleansing pads for use after sports and at night, some cleansing washes, and some creams for breakouts. He still get some pimples, but not near what he used to suffer through. She also has him use an Aveeno moisturizer with sunscreen.

Honestly for him the antibiotic seems to be the key. When he forgets to take it, he gets breakouts.

Thank you for the info!!! I am pretty sure DD will do the steps, she is good about washing off her makeup etc at night. I am going to show her this response and I am sure after seeing your photo she will be thrilled!!! You are beautiful and have beautiful skin. She is 14 and going to H.S. she is so worried that her skin will get worse!!! I keep telling her it is normal, but she is having trouble believing Mom. Thank you so much for the info!! I am going to let her try it. Do you but yours off the site or over the phone? I have also seen it sold in a kiosk at our mall. I know I saw an add fora $19.95 trial but I dont know if there was a code etc...I will have to keep watching the Tv. Thanks again

I've been using ProActive for years and would rather run naked down the street than to be without it! I have very sensitive skin too and it has never affected my skin the way other acne treatments did. It has never dried my skin out or made my skin itch etc. As a matter of fact, it leaves my face feeling baby soft. :cloud9: It is expensive, but a little goes a long way. I could see the difference in my skin the day after I started using it, and about three weeks later I had perfectly clear skin once again. :) I buy mine from QVC. QVC offers a 30 day, unconditional return, trial period for everything they sell. You could try that, that way if it isn't something that helps your daughter, you can return what's left and get your money back, no questions asked.

Good luck to her! :) Even though my skin wasn't affected by acne until I turned 35 or 40 :earseek: , I know how frustrating and heartbreaking it can be. :grouphug: to her. :)

I bought my ProActiv pack over the phone...It lasts for two months, and they just send a new pack every other month, that way I don't even have to worry about reordering...It's very convenient, as long as you don't mind them charging your credit card..

AWE! Thank you! :love2: You're too sweet. I know how brutal high school can be. Even the smallest things can cause huge worries (especially for girls). If she just sticks with it, her face will clear up to better than before! :cheer2:

You made a good point I forgot to say. I can also notice a difference immediately. My skin feels so soft and nice when I have Proactiv on. Its not greasy/oily and its not dry. Its just like normal, healthy skin. I see a huge difference each morning. It makes me feel confident enough to wear zero makeup. I used to not even go to the grocery store without makeup on. I have never had bad acne, just breakouts. But, in high school, it felt like it was a lot worse than it really was so I was a makeup queen. :sunny:

Does this clear out your pores? It seems the pores on my nose are full of dirt or grime or make up or something. I've tried toner, a million different cleaners, straight rubbing alcohol, nothing works.

I'm going to offer a differing opinion here. If your DD has sensitive skin, DO NOT buy the Pro-active for her until she has seen a dermatologist or skin specialist!!! They can patch test her skin to be sure she will not have a reaction to this product. My DD is the same age as yours and had HORRIBLE reactions to this stuff!!! As her skin specialist (esthtetician I believe is the term? ) said , any product that is active enough to make a difference is active enough to cause serious problems for those allergic to the active ingredients.

Great product for many people as is evidenced here, but nasty for others!

I think it does. Mine appear smaller than before.

I am going to have to agree with you on this one. Not everything, as wonderful as Proactiv has been for me, works for everyone. I do have sensitive skin and I use hypoallergenic everything and Proactiv has not bothered my skin, but I am sure it could make people dry or burn. It does seem pretty strong.

But for me, it works great (when I am consistent!) :rolleyes1

I was going to say the same thing! I used it last year, and ended up with welts on my face from the stuff! I had a bad reaction.

Thanks! That's our 13-year-old golden/husky mix named Duke. He is such a great dog. :goodvibes

I couldn't use Proactive, it made my skin break out, very dry and blotchy. I use Murad and that seems to work very well for my skin.

I use ProActive. :) I had some horrible, well, acne on the side of my face that even the stuff from the dermatologist couldn't get rid of. Btw, when the dermatologist talks like Elmer Fudd, it's kinda hard to take him seriously. :p Anyway, my fiance saw one of those ProActive informericals, & bought it off the site. *www.proactive.com* The acme on the side of my face is all gone now. :teeth:

No one has mentioned this, so I will.

If your daughter uses this at night, make sure she sleeps on a white pillow as the product will bleach it. The first time I used Pro Active at night, I slept on a green pillow. The next morning it looked like I had spilled bleach on it. It is because of the benzoyl peroxide in it.

Just FYI!! :)
