I happen to come across illustory. I guess its a kit that you write your own story and illustrated it. Then you put it in the pre paid postage envelope and send it in. You get back a hard cover binded book of your story. Its 19.99 and i thought this might be a good gift for a 6yr old who likes drawing and books.

Would like feedback if you have used this company before. I know the parents would love it if the final product is a really nice book that will last years if taken care of

I actually had one of those, and did not wind up using it, sold it for like 5. on craigslist, it still sells for 19.99
The book (my sil did one) was cute, a typical hard cover pressed book, think one of those boardbooks in the kids section of a bookstore. The pages had to be filled in with original wording and artwork. You can use pen, markers (they come with some, but were junk) Are you thinking of preparing it yourself or having the child do it?
The finished one I saw was prepared for the child with names and drawings of the family and things he liked. It was a success and the company did well by the sil, she was happy as was the recipients family. Is it really worth 20., no, its a kiddy book but the "memories" it will invoke are worth it;)

You could do similar by typing the story the child writes, and letting him/her illustrate. Scan the pages and send to Shutterfly/etc (which definately is a decent quality bound book.) Cost probably about the same if you hit a sale.

I'm gonna think about getting this. The child would do the coloring himself and writing with the help of his mother. Iwas thinking this would be a cute keepsake.

Well the bday child isnt mine so doing it through shutterfly would be weird since I would have to get the artwork and send it off. I dont have time to do it and get it back in time.
Now I do like the idea of shuttery for a book my daughter can make or a vacation book so thanks for the tip. Does shutterfly usually come out with codes or specials? Theres a 20% off now just curious if theres been better deals then that

I was thinking about doing something like this as an end of year gift for my son's teacher who helped him alot this year in 1st grade. I was thinking of using Tikatok because it seemed easy. Anyone tried them?

We have used Illustory twice and my daughter is always thrilled with her books. One of the nice things is that the actual paper she draws on becomes the page, so the image is truly her artwork, not a scan. We have had no trouble with the markers that come with the kit, she continues to use them to draw 2 years later! The book is hardcover and nicely made. They give you extra pages in case you need to re-do a page or two. I highly recommend these books!

While a middle school teacher, I used studentpublishing. com, which is the same people who put out Illustory. My class loved it. We did it online. With Illustory, you can allow the child to draw his/her own pictures and then scan them yourself, or just sent the pictures in with paid envelope.

Because I worked for a school, each child was sent a free paperback copy of his/her book. Some children's parents' chose to purchase copies of hardcover. It looks very professional. The paperbacks look very professional too. I was very impressed.

I had children who NEVER turned in a book report all year type up their books, work on their art work, and beam with pride when they received their completed books. There is even an About the Author page. In my case, I took a digital picture of each student (while in computer lab) and uploaded it to each child's book.

I would recommend Illustory; in addition, I'd recommend that you let the child's teacher(s), or future teachers, know about studentpublishing. com. It is free for schools (K-8). Even shipping is free. :cool1:

I'm liking the Illustory idea. His mother is artsy crafty and I know she will love this idea. Plus she will love showing it off to gma and gpa:goodvibes

I'm thinking dd might like this too! She is 12 is she to old???

Bought it for our oldest niece several years ago and she made a book about getting their dog. Several years later my other SIL asked us to purchase it for her daughter because they liked the idea so much.

Great idea. Great product. I would search for a coupon ( perhaps Borders etc) to make it more budget friendly.

We have instore samples, they are all really nice quality. Plates are pba free and dishwasher safe.

Framed art comes with a name plaque on it.

Two types of books you can make, one is more for drawing, the other is more for digital pictures.

PM me if you have any questions about the specific products (not trying to sell them to you, but if you need them, we do ship, lol).

We are really impressed with the kits! :goodvibes

My sister is 23. When she was 3/4 she had pneumonia and had to stay home for a whole week with my mom. My mom purchased an illustory kit (same one that still exists).

She still has the book "A Day with Mommy" where she drew all the pictures and my mom wrote what she wanted it to say.

Definitely go for it!

I wish my mom had made one with me :rotfl2:
