i know the cell won't work on the ship and i have seen some posts about 2 way radios, has anyone used these? how well do they work? which brand is a good brand to buy? can you get them for 3 people, ex a family of threee or only in 2's
thanks

We took them on our first cruise, we bought a good set, we weren't impressed. Sometimes we could hear each other, sometimes we couldn't. Never took them with again.

We used the Motorola, sorry do not know the exact name of Motorola's, but they were the cheapie ones 49$ or so. Although they were not top notch, we found these to be fantastic. When one of us was gone somewhere with one child or whatever, it was great to keep in touch.

We did not hear any other conversations. :)

Just a forewarning, the ship is made of very thick metal, you probably wont be able to get through that well, and if you do, you're probably only feet from eachother :cool1:

Also from port to ship would be EXTREMLY hard because then you're going through the ships sides too! but when you're both on port they would probably be fantastic

Interference is probably an issue to, if people are always trying to use them, you could definately pick up the wrong station, and sometimes not send to the right one

Now for my experince, a pen and paper in the state room is good enough, just have your kids write where they are going, just say every time you get near the stateroom you have to write where you plan to go. :cool1:

We used cheap walkie talkies, too. They worked off and on. . . they were great when were at Nassau. The adults kept getting lost .. .LOL. You can buy more than 2 and tune them to the same frequency. Anyone can listen in you know :) We'll be bringing them on the next trip!

I totally agree! We have Motorola as well they are about 10 years old and we've had them on all five cruises! Not only could we keep in touch on board but I could talk to my husband in the Cozumel shopping area while on board and castaway Cay to onboard as well. Highly recommend taking walkie talkies! :earsgirl:

We used Motorola radios last summer and they worked most of the time. As mentioned, there are some areas where the reception was poor, but we were glad to have them and will definitely take them again.

Just wondering why anyone would need these on board. Personally we found people using them in Disney last time very annoying and likewise with mobile phones in public places.
Surely it is best to arrange to meet up at set times and we have always found this works well.

Skallywag, maybe you will find a need once you see how big the ship actually is!!! When you say "meet you on deck 9", and you realize it is HUGE!!! :) Also when your child is ready to test their wings, but not quite ready to fly alone yet, this is excellent!!! We do not use them to chat, only to find each other!!! I think cellular phones are more annoying, but they are everywhere..

Enjoy your cruise. :)

Wish I had ours at Nassau, DD wanted to do the bridge tour with the lab before joining DH and I for some shopping at Del Sol. DH went back on the ship to pick up DD, I forgot to give him the walkie talkie from my bag. They were 30+ mins late meeting me, during that time, I was pacing between the 2 Del Sols thinking of worse scenarios. Turns out, the bridge tour ran late and DD wanted to change her clothes!!!

I still find it hard to understand how years ago we managed without things like mobile phones etc. I do find that many people when talking on these things tend to shout and it can be very disturbing for others. Feel these things have their place but should only be used as an emergency.

I could not agree more Skallywag.... We only use these IF we become lost.... But it certainly is annoying when people feel the need to shoot the breeze

We used them last year on the Wonder. They work for the most part, great for when in port and you split up!

Just back from the Magic and we used ours a few times. Not that useful on the boat but once you're off, it can make a big difference. In Cozumel, we had someone meeting us at the pier for a flight to Chichen Itza to tour the ruins. Thanks to the walkie talkies, we were able to split up and find our contact with much more efficiency.

On the Magic now and tried to use them this morning. Bits and pieces and intermitten. I don't know, maybe in an emergency.... but we are not impressed with the way they work.
