Has anyone tried this?

BF brought a 6 pack of 20oz bottles on the plane in carryon. It made it to destination just fine.

As Diet Pepsi and Mt. Dew fans, we take pop with us every trip. We have taken both bottles and cans, and packed them in carry-ons and checked luggage. We have never had any problems at all. :)

I flew to the Bahamas a few years ago with my aunt, we are Pepsi addicts to the hilt. I packed bottles, and at the airport her luggage was too heavy so I offered to carry her Pepsi in my bags, she had cans. Not only did one of her cans explode (all through my luggage), but I partially opened my suitcase and stuck my hand in to pull out my bathing suit, cut my hand on the can. I will never do the can thing again. But all of my bottles were safe and sound.

I was considering using a rolling cooler or something a little smaller that DH could carry-on, filled with 8oz cans of his favorite orange soda and 8oz bottles of water (rather than the 12 oz cans and 16.9 oz bottles of water). My concern is with the weight and it being too heavy to carry. The smaller bottles of water can always be refilled and reused.

I vote for taking it in your carry on - the dumbest (well, one of the dumbest) things I ever did was pack my mousse ( a mosituring type that was actually an orangish type color ) in our checked suitcase - let me tell you - it was a mess. I have never taken a chance like that again. I'm a Diet Pepsi fanatic, so I totally sympathize - but be careful and good luck.

The cargo areas of commercial aircraft are pressureized just the same as the areas in which you are riding. So there sould be no worries about sodas exploding due to pressure or altitude. Where the worry comes from is the way your luggage can be handled. So I would recommend against it if possible. Or if you must, pack them toward the center of your bag with lots of padding.

And on a side note, from personal experience with afriend of mine, The luggage bomb scanners can kill digital cameras.
