Okay, now that I have your curiosity peaked,,,,,,I have lost 15# on what I call "the Disney world diet". Way before our trip to WDW in November, 2013, I decided to try to get into shape to be able to walk around WDW. We all know that it is a hike and a half just to get to the bus stop, then from the bus stop to the park entrance, then to trek all around the parks. It gets to be kinda intimidating! So,,,,,some back ground first: I have fibromyalgia and arthritis and don't do much exercise due to pain, etc. Also have the problem with tendons in my feet giving out or rupturing. Anyway, I am more of a couch potato than athlete:) But I knew that I needed to try to get into better shape to "do" WDW. So I started in a gym using my silver sneakers free pass at the gym. Yes, being a senior does pay off sometimes. I tried to go 3 xa week and just do the treadmill. I told the personal trainer that I didn't want to train to run marathons, but just wanted to be able to tolerate walking more.
I also downsized my meals, watched the sweets, along with the treadmill. I tried to do 3 x a week, but in reality sometimes once a week or every 2 weeks, depending on my fibro:guilty: But I kept at it!!!! I am not an athletic type person. I high school, I was the girl that always got picked last for sports, just not coordinated or strong enough:sad1: So this is an accomplishment for me:cheer2: I dropped about 10#'s that first time and am down l5# now and working on losing even more slowly.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that going to WDW and walking several miles was my inspiration and a goal I worked towards. It worked out great as I was able to tolerate walking longer distances and enjoyed my trip, with my husband, even more. :flower3: We are going again in November and I am again in training so I can enjoy the magic of disneypixiedust:
Love to hear from others who have done something like this.

There's a "losing weight for Mickey" (or something like that thread) on here that is really long. It was hard for me to get "into" it as it was so long, but you might find it helpful.

I am doing exactly what you're doing. We're going in May, and I needed to lose it anyway, but the trip is major motivation!

I don't want to be so HOT. I want to wear whatever I want, not "fat clothes". I want to be able to go all day with my family at their pace-not my pace. I want GREAT pictures. It's all motivation.

Down 12 pounds! Won't mention how much more I am shooting for, but for now, it's a daily battle that I'm winning! :cool1:

My Fitness Pal app has been so helpful. Encouraging and I love logging all my food and exercise in it. It's a free app that is easy to use. Might check that out!

Hi Toy story mom: I'm glad to hear of your success. I know it is a constant struggle, but it will be worth it. I've never heard of the other thread, so guess I'm not so original after all:confused3 I hope you reach your goal. Keep me posted on how it 's going and I'll do the same. We're going In November, so only a few more months:thumbsup2 Yea! thanks for your imput:)

Me! Me! For me, it was trying on my shorts from LAST October's trip and realizing I can't even button some of them. I have gained 10 pounds since then. EEK. I was actually a bit thin at the time due to some stress in my life, so I'm not looking to lose back to that weight. So, I bought new shorts. ;) But I'm definitely looking to increase my stamina and get stronger. A friend/co-worker is into running and has really inspired me, so I joined a gym and am doing the couch to 5K program. It's been really tough so far. :sad2: Like you, I was never athletic and always picked last for sports! But having that goal of being healthier for our trip in a couple months is inspiring. I just hope I stick with it afterwards. My friend is not even into Disney (at all) but is interested in the RunDisney events, so I'm wondering if I'll ever get to the point to participate at that level? It would be awesome!

I am currently pregnant so I can't lose weight right now, but we went to disney in 2012 and 2013 and the 2012 trip's shorts did not for for the 2013. I'm hoping to do a 2015 trip where I'll be closer to the 2012 size!

This is my second baby and the 2012 baby was about 18 months after baby 1. I lost the baby weight and the pre-baby weight I had but then put it all back on between late 2012 and mid-2013.

Eating much better now while pregnant so I'm not putting on much pregnancy weight. The challenge will be limiting the takeout after the baby! We both work so takeout is just so convenient.

Best of luck to everyone here in meeting their goals!

My issue I think will be sticking to the good foods even when it might not be as convenient.

The hardest thing is definitely the "eat on the run" thing. When I can plan ahead, I'm usually okay. When everyone at work decides to go eat at a local Italian restaurant, not so easy.

I am going out of town in a couple weeks for a work, overnight trip. I decided that I would eat what I wanted for dinner that night. It's covered by work and I could be extravagent. I started looking at some places...then the calorie counts...and I just can't do it. That one meal does not seem worth the calories to me. So, being the planner that I am, I've already ordered my meal to be ready the night I'm there. It's under 500 calories...couldn't blow it, even after giving myself permission.... guess that's really a good thing. :rotfl: Also, excited to try out the awesome looking gym while I'm there. I just keep thinking of the great pictures we'll have when in the World! :cool1:

Kate

I think it's great that you can resist like that! Keeping under 500 calories is awesome, even when you give yourself permission to eat what you want:thumbsup2 I do that at times too. I look at the calories and ask if it is worth it to eat it. Sometimes it is:) keep me updated;)

great freckles, looks like you are on the right track:) I can't run due to fibro and arthritis pain, but I certainly would if I could. But I find just walking at a steady pace works for me. good luck:wave2:

Thanks and best of luck to you too!

Congrats to all of you who have lost weight, and prepared yourselves for the parks better!!

I may be 25 and pretty active, but thanks to all the dancing/gymnastics I have arthritis in my hips and ankle pain that likes to act up a lot during a trip with a lot of walking and being on my feet all day.

Walking in the parks definitely is an exercise all on its own!

I need to do this! less than a month to go to WDW

Anybody know where that other thread is that is mentioned above?

I just feel like all I do is gain weight. I try walking and I don't really eat that much. I'm on a med that promotes weight gain and I also have a thyroid issue which makes you gain weight too. Its like I can't win.

I started to try to get in shape when we first began planning the trip, but after basically laying in bed for a few weeks following a tragedy I never got back in to the routine. I definitely weighed more than I would have liked when I left for our Disney trip last week. I just weighed myself out of curiousity (we returned 2 days ago) and thanks to all of the walking, sweating, and eating better (lots of fruit for snacks at the park) I lost 6 lbs! This drop has motivated me to try to get back on track and get back to my goal.

I think if you'll search for "Losing Weight for Mickey" you'll find the other thread.

Any suggestions for kiddos? My DH is on his own, been trying to get him to walk, etc, but he still thinks he's 21 and can go all day and night at full speed. DS is very fit thanks to MMA five times a week and running 2-4 miles a day. But DD, she's 5 and a WHINER...seriously thinking of bringing a stroller.

tsm mom: Yes, yes, yes, I would bring a stroller for the 5 y/o. My daughter thought she could get by without one for grandson that age, and ended up getting one for the rest of the trip. Much easier;) Those little legs get really tired trying to keep up:yay: I think you will all be happier:) have a great vacation

Hi banksmommy: I'm so sorry for your tragedy. I understand the laying around for a while. So glad you lost 6# at WDW:cheer2: That's fantastic! Last year I thought all the walking would cancel out all the eating! WRONG:guilty: I found out I didn't lose any weight! But the walking before the trip really helped a lot - Going in November and will TRY to eat less:coffee:

I'll second the stroller for DD5- at least bring an umbrella stroller. Encourage her to walk BUT if she is tired or hot, let her ride. Why not? I'd sure like that option when I get tired and hot in WDW! Other benefits of a stroller- you'll have someplace to hang that backpack, you can travel at your speed when you are in a hurry and not her speed, if she's in it and you're tired you can lean against the handles as you push, it's a proven whine-stopper (who wants to listen to a 5 y.o. complain about being hot and tired when we ALL want to complain about being hot and tired?), and, BEST of all, you will NOT be the parent carrying a sleeping, heavy 5 year old out of the park and into your hotel room- just stash her in the stroller! I am so tired of people being judgmental of those who take a stroller for their 5 or 6 year old- I think they are just jealous because THEY are the ones carrying their sleeping kid! TAKE THE STROLLER!! (I like the umbrella style because they are small, lightweight, fold easily for buses and monorail.)

Sounds like a plan! And, we're staying at CR...the idea of rolling a sleeping 5 year old onto the monorail or the sidewalk back to the hotel sounds fantastic! We're going for 11 days...many will be spent in MK...I don't know why I get worried about what others think...it's MY vacation and they need to focus on their vacation! :thumbsup2

We don't use one at home, but I've looked at Amazon. I think it's going to be much cheaper to buy and ship one to the resort. What do I do with it after? I don't want to haul it back as we're flying...is it weird to give it to someone? Can I leave it somewhere?

Kate

Thank you disneyseniors :-) We're moving forward. Time to get my butt in gear.

And YES! Bring a stroller! They ARE jealous! lol. I even brought a double so my 7 year old could sit when he wanted. The parks are big. Sometimes you want to walk fast, and little legs don't go that fast! It really hit home for me when someone on a FB page I'm on posted their total miles walked in 5 days (almost 40!)

Checking in for the weekend...down 15.5 lbs :woohoo:...many, many more to go, but hey, you gotta start somewhere! Hope everyone else is doing well!!
