Has anyone tried the Richard Petty driving experience?

My DH's b'day is 3 weeks before our next trip, so as a gift, I purchased the 8 laps solo, and before that he will ride around maybe 3 times w/ an experienced driver.

It sounds like a great time for a guy, but maybe I should have asked around before i bought it!

Any feedback?

So did you purchase two separate events? DH did the 3 hour (I think it's called) Rookie Experience 2 years ago and LOVED it. That has to be reserved. The "Ride Along", 3 lap one, doesn't. You just show up-when we were there in May, there was no wait for the "Ride Along". The only thing that's a problem for some people is that you have to be able to drive a standard shift for the Rookie Experience.

My DH and my stepfather both did this on our Christmas '04 trip. My mom and I did this for them for their Christmas gifts. They both loved it!
So much so that they almost added on more laps at the end of their "experience".

They both say that they would like to do it again. And for my cheap DH, that's saying something! They did the solo driver package (whichever one is right around $300, no idea how many laps that was), not the ride along.

Don't worry...he'll think it's a great gift!

I got him the 3 hour solo rides, maybe 8 laps, and also the ride along, he will do that first kind of like "training". Also, they gave me a discount on the ride along since I purchased the 3 hour lesson and laps.

This is going to be a long wait for this vacation!

I bought this for my DH for his wedding gift. He loved it!! The next summer, he (and my dad) got a group of about 20-25 guys together to do the driving experiece at Loundon (NHIS...our local track). A lot of the girlfriends/wives took the day off of work and joined them. it was a great day.

Thinking of doing the same for my DH. But he wants to do the "Kings Experience(?) which runs like $700.00.....we'll see.
