I HEARD ABOUT THEM ON GOOD MORNING AMERICA. SEEMS THEY STARTED IN ENGLAND AND THEY ARE NOW THE RAGE HERE. SO I BOUGHT A BOX OF TWINKIES AND WE TRIED THEM

THE FIRST ONES WE DID WERE SO,SO. THEN WE TRIED AGAIN WITH THE FAT BEING AT A MUCH HIGHT HEAT THAN THE FIRST TIME. FIRST TIME IT WAS AT 350. BOY OH BOY WERE THEY GOOD. ONE OF THESE LITTLE BABIES WILL BLOW ANYONES DIET. THEY ARE REALLY GOOD.

I'm not sure they started in England, but in Scotland I've heard they deep fry Mars Bars, although I've never tried one myself.

I haven't had a Twinkie for years - you can't get them over here.

Mmmm.... I could just eat one, deep fried or otherwise.

If you must know ;)

...a Twinkie is a pre-packaged cake of sorts - really super sweet spongey type of cake filled with really super sweet frosting. Just think lots of sugar and preservatives. You buy a box that has several individually wrapped cakes - they are smaller than a hot dog bun, but kind of that shape.

it's along the lines of a cadbury's mini roll - BUT - it's not chocolate, and it's slightly bigger. I can't really think of a good equivelent.
They are very 'artificial', I think they would last forever.

I've found an article about the twinkies - I should have guessed a Scot was behind it. He dips them in batter first/

I was watching Food Network's "Unwrapped" show last night. The topic of one of them was bizaar food. One of the things they showed was a plcae in NYC called "The Chip Shop" (or something like that) it started as a fish and chips restaurant by an Englishman.

They do fired twinkies and all kinds of candy bars as well. They do them all the same way as the fish: roll the item in flour and then the batter and then fry them.

After that they had a disclaimer saying not to try this at home as the temps they use for the oil is hotter then you can get at home.

Check out thier site, www.foodtv.com (I think) and you may be able to find out when they will be replaying that unwrapped show.

At the Bloomsburg Fair in PA last week and fried oreos were the rage. They were battered dipped, fried and dusted with cinnamon sugar. Didn't try one, can't eat too much fried foods but everyone else was in heaven.

Haven't tasted the Twinkies, but the Oreos are DELICIOUS!!!

browneyes- LOL at your Twinkie picture! ;)

This thread is making me awful hungry!

boy, oh boy! eat too many of those and you will be in heaven....has anyone dared to do a calorie and fat count on those lovely little morsels?

Mike, I saw that "Unwrapped". Isn't that a great show?! They did the fried candy bars on "The Top Five" right after Unwrapped the other day. They were also showing the fried Oreos.
Our fair is going on now. I'm supposed to go this evening and I understand they have the fried Mars and Snickers bars this year, so I've GOT to try them!!!
I'm with you Bev, Twinkies are too artificial. I can't even imagine them being good fried... and I think everything is good fried! ;)

The had deep fried cheesecake on a stick at the Texas State Fair. Didn't try any though. It made me think of the Twinkies. Wonder what they'll come up with next year?
