I would love to plan a future trip to Depoe Bay, and saw a trade possibility in my DVC planning book. The place is called the Resort at Whale Point Condominiums. Has anyone been here? If so, what were your impressions? Thanks!

While we've never stayed at this resort, we have toured the facilities. They're quite nice.

In addition to DVC, we own a small amount of points through WorldMark by Tredwest. This is one of their nicer resorts, and is ideal for storm watching.

Nearby, there are whale-watching charters as well as deep-sea fishing exccursions. :boat:

If you want a peek of the facilities, you can get some information on the WorldMark site: http://www.worldmarktheclub.com/resorts/d1/

Hope this helps!

Just my need for a tidy reality interjecting. The WorldMark by Trendwest at Depo Bay is indeed a stunning resort and one of the best on the Oregon Coast however I'm pretty sure that is not The Resort At Whale Point Cond.

That resort, Whale Point Cond., Is closser to Newport and is not nearly as beautiful or has anywhere the views of the TrendWest in Depo Bay. There are several TrendWest places In that part of Oregon and Depo Bay is the best.

Hmm...the Vacation Planner does list it as the Resort at Whale Pointe in Depoe Bay. I'll have to look into it further to see if it has changed. Thanks!

The Resort at Whale Pointe is the same property as Worldmark Depoe Bay. The RWP is the fractionally owned units, whereas the Worldmark Depoe Bay is the timeshares, but they are both in the same location, just different units.

Thank you for the clarification. Now it all makes sense. It is truly a beautiful resort. I'm glad it's the one on exchange.

We go to Worldmark Depoe Bay quite often... usually at least one to two weekends/month, and sometimes we spend a week or so at the resort. It can be difficult to trade into, but as WM owners, we can book it quite easily with moderate planning. WM is similar to DVC in regards to being a points based (vs weeks based) resort.

The units are perched on the cliffs, and it not unusual to see whales immediately off shore... almost rubbing against the rocks below your deck. Every unit has a spectacular panoramic view of the ocean. When a storm comes in, the spouting horns can splash higher than the 3 story units! My absolute favorite times at DB are during wild storms.

The only problem with the resort is that the floor to floor soundproofing is not as good as I would like, so if you are on the 1st or 2nd floor, you can hear people moving around above you. Usually it is not a problem, but every once in a while we end up with people with kids who like to run around. On one recent trip, we had such a family above us, but a phone call to the front desk was enough to get them to quiet down. All in all, it is a small issue considering how spectacular the resort is.

For us, a trip to Depoe Bay is the antithesis of a Disney Vacation. We mostly go to sit by the fireplace, and enjoy the solitude of the ocean while listening to music. I love sleeping with the slider open, listening to the sound of the crashing waves. I think it adds years to my life expectancy by reducing stress.

Clearly this is a strong recommendation for DB. If you are having a hard time getting an exchange, but have your heart set on going... you can contact me for help in getting a reservation.

Wow, Flynz4!!! You sure did make me want to go there...

Lisa,

I'm glad that you enjoyed my report. We are currently at VWL and enjoying WDW! Being here without kids... things are very different on this trip. We tend to go a lot slower, and just enjoy everything that WDW has to offer at a slower pace. But in reality... most of our WDW vacations are chock-full of activities... which is the exact opposite of our times at Depoe Bay. I like the balance of both types of vacations.

If you click on my website... I have a half filled page with some pics of Depoe Bay under the vacation section.

I will definitely go visit your website very soon :D It must be very nice to visit at Christmas just you two!! I have only been at Christmas once in 98. We stayed in the FW cabins and it was my DS's first trip. We had so much fun!

DH and I are doing an anniversary trip in July alone. We will definitely keep a slower pace than we did on our honeymoon pre DVC :cloud9:

I printed your description of Depoe Bay for DH to read

Have great fun at VWL,
Lisa :flower:

FLYNZ4-Thank you for your wonderful pictures as well as report. I don't know if we will try to trade there or go with another condo in Depoe Bay, but I do know that we will definitely be going there someday! What a beautiful place! Just curious, when is your favorite time of year to go?

I would think that most people want to visit in the summer... but it never really gets too warm on the oregon coast. It might be 100 degrees inland, and high of 60 at the coast.

The best storms are in the winter... and that is when we go the most. I will often drive there after work on Friday afternoon... and then drive directly back to work on Monday morning (being careful not to schedule any meetings too early). I am not sure that I would recommend a full week in the winter time... you might get cabin fever... especially if you have the "Disney genes" where your idea of relaxation is a quick nap on the bus ride between theme parks. :D
