what should I expect.......will I be completely loopy?
thanks

ps......I have serious flying anxieties/fears

My mother has taken Xanax when flying, and finds that it does make her relaxed.
On one occasion for a couple of hours while on her way to Orlando she was kind of "Out of it." She does not remember certain parts of that trip. (Could be that she didn't eat enough before the flight )

However, that was the only time that happened.
She said that you have to remember that medication affects everyone in different ways.
You should try the drug at least once before going on the trip to see how it would affect you.
Your doctor can advise you.

I used Xanax for the first time during our trip last week. It worked great for me. Ever since I had kids I don't fly well at all. I get so nervous that I feel sick to my stomach during the whole flight and it would take all my willpower just to stay on the plane. I did test the medication about a week before the trip to make sure it didn't make me loopy. It did really seem to calm me down. I didn't feel sick during the flight. It didn't really make me loopy but I did get very sleepy a few times. I will definitely use it for all future flights.

just take half your dosage before you get in the car, then the other half at the airport...you should be fine...if you panic once you actually get on plane, you can take another half dosage right in your seat, it works fairly quickly, especially if you haven't eaten, you might even be able to nap...try deep breathing & remember you'll be there shortly; if you're dragging when you arrive, drink lots of water & have a caffeine beverage...you have my sympathies

Ahhh, another member of the White Knuckle Flyers Club of America! I used to get so panic stricken on airplanes that there were times I thought I'd die right in my seat from fear! Now I take Xanax and although I still do not relish flying, it is bearable. There are different strenght pills available, so you might want to tell your dr. about your fears and have him prescribe the correct dosage. My dr. told me to take one pill 1/2 hour before the flight, but unfortunately I don't remember the # of milligrams each pill was. He only prescribed 4 pills, so I didn't have enough to "experiment". :) Your dr. might even prescribe a completely different medication.

My dr prescribed the .50 ones......and said take 1-2. I will take 1/2 in airport.........(I hate takeoffs) and 1/2 on plane.....I think that should be good.

thanks !!!!!!

I take one pill 45 minutes to an hour before take-off (so it's in my system). If it's a long flight, or if I feel particularly uncomfortable during the flight, I take a 1/2 of an additional pill. (I don't know the strength of my dosage, but the bottles says "take 1 or 2 pills," so the 1 and 1/2 is fine for me.

I still don't like it (flying), but the Xanax manages to take the edge off. Just take deep breathes. That's key. It keeps you from hyperventilating, helps with your circulation, and discourages nausea.

You're certainly not alone!!!
