I was wondering if anyone has ventured off to take this tour. It isn't well known, but they do offer it. I was also wondering how much the taxi fare is since it is on the opposite side of the island.

we were spending a couple of days in San Juan and took the ferry from the old San Juan area across the "bay" and then took a waiting taxi to the bacardi plant - we enjoyed the tour and the post-tour tasting - and we were able to buy some rum that's not typically sold in the US - and also sample some product just coming onto the market. The taxi wasn't expensive.

I did this several years ago while I was on vacation in San Juan. I'm not a rum drinker, but I loved the tour. I enjoyed the history of rum making, and I did enjoy the tasting afterwards (rum and lemonade while relaxing at the edge of the harbor early on a Saturday afternoon was heavenly). I would definitely do it again!

The tour is great! It was a short ferry ride across. Seems to me the ferry dock wasn't far from the cruise docks.

We did the tour years ago. It was great. But is was a regular excusion, so can't help you with taxi fare.

When I lived in Puerto Rico, my parents visited and I took them to the Bacardi Plant. (I actually lived about 8 mins. from the plant.)

It was nice...relaxing. I thought the history given on the tour was interesting. We rode a tram around the plant, except in areas where you needed to go by foot (inside the plant). As another post mentioned, you are able to purchase Bacardi products that are not available in the US. I recommend the Bacardi Reserve in a black label...quite nice. Plus, you get to sip rum drinks on a big patio with the Atlantic Ocean in view and a tropical breeze in the air. The drinks varied...rum punch, rum lemonade, rum and coke, etc. For me it was the first time I'd actually had a drink with my parents...didn't know my mom was a rum fan. I have a great photo of my parents cozied up to a 10 ft. tall Bacardi Rum bottle which is one of my favorite shots of them.

Since I lived there when I went, I can't help with the taxi question...sorry.

My husband and I have done the tour twice. It has been a little different each time. Very interesting though. They give each person a ticket for a complimentary drink at the end of the tour. The funny thing is, the bartenders never took our tickets so we kept going up for more and more and more, etc.:bounce:
