DH and I will be taking our first cruise ever in October (24 - 27) and our toying with the idea of taking the Dolphin Encounter. Is it worth the cost? How much time do you actually get to spend with the dolphins?

Thanks!

I'd be interested in hearing this too because my son (8) and I are signed up to do this on May 27 in Blue Lagoon.
Thanks

Yes!!!! It is worth every penny. My Mother and I did the Dolphin Encounter on 2/16/01 and we both loved it. The Blue Lagoon is so beautiful also. We have great pictures and memories I even bought the video and two pictures.

I would suggest to buy a waterproof camera the one time use kind, I'm doing this for my parasailing excursion in 12 days!!!! I saw one on sale in our local Sunday paper today for $8.99 - 27 explosures. It's better to buy them ahead of time I think they cost more on the ship.

My mom, my DD and I went on the Dolphin Encounter (it's also a dolphin rehab to try and return them to their own environment) and had a ball! DD was 8 - there was a baby dolphin who was having a blast a getting everyone wet (make sure you bring your waterproof camera, if not the ship sent a photographer). Folks were sent in 4 at a time in a shallow pool, 2 to each dolphin to stroke their tummies. We spent about 4-5 mins. and they gave a very informative talk as well.

We were told to rub them below their "chin" and above their belly button. Our other hand was to be held flat against our back. One little boy who was posing for his parents wasn't paying attention and was rubbing below the belly button. The guide told the child to rub above the belly, and he said "WHY?" in a loud voice...the guide yelled over to his parents, "I'll get you to explain it...let's just say the car stays in the garage until it's needed!".

The best part was seeing these beautiful creatures up close and being able to touch them.

It was the highlight of our 4 day cruise.:)

We looked at the prices from the cruise package and they seemed high. But we found we can book it ourselves for $59 a person, and my 5 year old is free. We just need to arrange transportation from the port to the dolphin departure. (it leaves from about 20 minutes away from the port, and they take you on a boat ride to the dolphin place.

Any suggestions?

Would someone please provide the information needed about getting from the port to the Blue Lagoon ferry? I read that the BL ferry location is between the two bridges on Paradise Island, is that near the port (ship)?
Your help would be very appreciated.

I didn't do it but our dinner companions did and they really loved it...they got great video! So bring the camera's...you can even get the waterproof Kodack throw aways so you don't have to worry about getting your "real" camera wet!

We did the Dolphin Encounter last January and it was great. They even video tape and photograph it for you so you could purchase them.

The morning we docked in Nassau there was a meeting for anyone who was going ashore (sp?). We took a 45 minute ferry boat ride to the Blue Lagoon. We left the ship and took a long walk to the ferry boat. There was a big group of us. It was a nice ride. The had a band playing and there was plenty to see including the Atlantis hotel so get your camera ready.

Good luck.
