Has anyone taken bonine or dramamine before rides? Which is better?

I wear bands. You can buy them at Walgreens. You wear one on each wrist. It's a pressure point type of band. I also wear them when we go on a long drive. It works for me.

SeaBands, I wear them too! I wear them on long car trips and cruises. No drug, so no drowsiness!

I get terrible motion sickness and I take less drowsy Dramamine in the morning. If I take Dramamine in the car I will fall asleep almost immediately but with being active in a park, I have never had a problem feeling drowsy. I find Dramamine does help with most motion sickness but there are some rides that I just avoid all together.

Thank you everyone. It looks like more votes for Bonine. I looked it up in internet and it doesn't seem to come in "non-drowsy" so hopefully it won't make me drowsy.

If you Google the active ingredient in non drowsy dramamine, you'll find its exactly the same as in Bonine. It's meclizine 25 mg.

chewable non drowsy formula which was great because I took them in the morning then again late afternoon. Actually everyone took them just in case.

I also took these and my grandson as well. I only had to take one in the morning and never had to take it again during the day. best part. no drowsiness

I can get motion sick in my bathtub! I take one Bonine every morning when I first get up at WDW and I'm fine. It doesn't make me terribly drowsy, and they are chewable, so easy to take. I need it for the bus and parking lot tram in addition to the attractions. However... it didn't work for the Barnstormer. I have never been on a ride that made me as sick! I also get queasy at the end of 7DMT, TT, and would never consider riding MS-orange or Star Tours. No sense in pushing my luck!

I don't find that ginger or Sea Bands help at all.

I know everyone is different but I'm actually ok at star tours. 7 D's made me sick... I'm hoping one Bonine a day will help me. My problem is that I get vertigo after a trip to Disney and all the motion.... I'm hoping if I take bonine this time daily it might help me not get the vertigo after the trip!!

I get ill every time we go, without fail. To combat, I get an RX of Zofran from the doctor before we go. It works quickly and is especially great for when motion sickness and nausea just "hit you", like it tends to do me. I like to rely on what I know works...I would rather not be sitting on a wall at AK again cause I can't move from nausea.

I take bonine for flying.
In the parks, I take a zofran, wear my sea sickness bands and also chew ginger gum.

I get motion sick on EVERYTHING. I've also tried everything...ginger pills, ginger gum, sea bands, motion-eaze oil, dramamine, bonine. The only thing that works for me is the Transdermal Scop patch. I put it on the night before we leave and change it every 3 days. Works like a charm!

On my trip to WDW recently, I used the new Dramamine that uses only ginger along with the wrist bands on the airplane. I usually get motion sickness and take Dramamine, but hate the way I get so sleepy so I decided to try this combination and it worked!! I didn't go on any rides that would make me sick, so I didn't try it for a park day.

I would recommend the two together, and you won't get drowsy!

I am usually pretty good on roller coasters (maybe a bit queasy feeling) but would get sick on simulators (like Star Tours) or spinning rides (like Tea cups). And when I say that I got sick, I mean that the best case scenario was that I needed to sit down for a while. More often than not, I was just hoping to make it to the bathroom before I got truly "sick". A person here recommended non-drowsy dramamine started 2 days before I would actually ride any of those rides. I took that advice and am so glad I did! I was not drowsy at all and was able to ride everything! I went on Star Tours 3 times in a row and the teacups two times in a row, spinning the whole time, and felt absolutely nothing. I also wasn't drowsy in the least. An interesting note, though. One time, I was unable to find the non-drowsy and just got less drowsy. It didn't seem to work as well. I didn't get sick but I could definitely feel that I had gone on those rides and didn't trust myself to do them multiple times in a row.

I agree with all that have said Bonine. We went to six flags in 2014 and while I used to be able to ride anything, even the roller coasters made me sick. So when we went to Universal last year, I got Bonine. Took it every morning before we went and was fine on every ride, didn't make me drowsy, and only had to take once per day.

I use Bonine. It doesn't make me tired.

If you Google the active ingredient in non drowsy dramamine, you'll find its exactly the same as in Bonine. It's meclizine 25 mg.

Yes to both of these! The active ingredient in Original Dramamine is different than meclizine. I had a severe/first time bout with vertigo a few months before a disney trip and meclizine is what was recommended by the er neurologist... and subsequently by my family practitioner. I have always been prone to motion sickness but after that vertigo incident I was so nervous about our trip to WDW. I took it twice, both times were an hour before going to HS as I was most worried about RnRC going upside down and ToT.

Drugs or no drugs I always skip ST, Tea Cups and MS. Good luck!

Dramamine turns me into a slug. :P
Bonine works well with a little less tiredness.
Natural Ginger Capsules seems to work the best.

what is in the little patch you put behind your ear?

scopolamine

a poisonous plant alkaloid used as an antiemetic in motion sickness, as a preoperative medication for examination of the eye, and formerly as a sedative and hypnotic.
