Has anyone taken a taxi between Disneyland & Universal Studios?

Just wondering about the approximate cost & time. I know cabs are tough to estimate since the ride is timed so it will depend on traffic but I'd love to hear what people have actually paid in the past.

We looked into taking a shuttle but they seem to leave a bit late & we'd like to be there at rope drop & beat the crowds. Any other suggestions for getting there early in the day that might be cheaper than a cab?

Have you looked into a rental car. I think it would be less expensive than a taxi.

Last time we drove up to Universal during weekday morning traffic it took about 1.5 hours

When I looked, YES there was a shuttle.
The timing wasn't that great. It arrived well after opening and the return time wasn't ideal.

I don't recommend a taxi. Traffic is unpredictable between that stretch. I live near Universal and it takes me usually an hour to an hour 20 minutes to get to Disneyland on a weekday.

Using a taxi is probably a bad idea. It will be very expensive as you may be stuck in traffic for quite a while. I would recommend renting a car for a day or finding a shuttle. Either would be cheaper and likely a more pleasant experience.

In a situation like that a "Town Car" from a limo Co. is usually cheaper.

I live much closer to Universal than I do to Disneyland (though USH is still not exactly super close to me), and I have taken point-to-point shuttle services (meaning no stops at the airport or anywhere else, and I am the only passenger) to and from Disneyland Resort. I've used Super Shuttle -- for point-to-points they sent out (if I remember correctly) an Express Shuttle van. I have also used a service called Sav-on Shuttle quite a few times (I like them much better than Super Shuttle). Point-to-point shuttles are not cheap, though. Super Shuttle was more expensive than Sav-on -- I believe they charged me something crazy like $130-ish each way!!!! Sav-on was a bit cheaper, charging me $80 or $90 each way the last time I used them (though I don't know what they are currently charging).

As to how long it takes to get to USH from DLR, or from USH to DLR, depending on which day of the week or time of day you go it could take an hour or longer.

One service that has gotten good reviews on this forum (I've never tried them) is Lansky's (they used to be called DK's Livery).

I wouldn't risk taking a taxi unless I could find a company that was willing to give me a flat rate. Most of them won't do that and they can't be trusted, as you could run into traffic or suddenly end up taking a 'scenic route' that hikes up your fare even beyond the expected expensive price.

I think that renting a car is probably the best, most cost effective, option for a direct route between USH and DLR and vice versa, but if that's not possible at least you know you can, indeed, get point-to-point shuttle service.

Renting a car is best. Barring that you can catch a Metrolink/Amtrak train from Anaheim up to LA and then switch to the red line subway to Universal. Any other kind of limo/shuttle/taxi would be very expensive.

Edit: Checked Uber and their estimate for the UberX service is under $50 each way, so that could be feasible.

Sounds like renting a car is a good option. Is there anywhere near Disneyland you can rent a car? We'd really only need it for the one day since we're using shuttles for everywhere else & we're walking distance to DL.

I'd like to do a shuttle for universal too but really don't like the time frames of the ones I found. I've never heard of Uber before I'll look into that.

I should also mention we're going on a Sunday/Mother's Day/marathon day.

If we do rent a car, what is the drive between the parks like? I'm from Canada the biggest city I've ever driven in is Vancouver (which I find to be quite stressful). Are we talking like 5 lane packed freeways? Is it a scary drive for someone who hasn't been there before?

There's an Alamo Car Rental in DTD. If you do a google or Bing search using the car companies, you'll find a few around the DLR area. Are you AAA or Costco member? You could reserve a car through them. Look at the hours of the location you plan to use. Not many open early enough to get the car the morning of going to Universal, I'd guess you'll need to get it the evening before. I believe all of them do have an after hours drop off when you're finished with the car.

Pay attention to which lane you need to be in when you are going from one freeway to another. I think the map features lets you know when the interchange will need you to be in the left lane instead of the right lane.

Definitely rent a car. If you've driven in Vancouver, you can drive there.
