Has anyone stayed at the Trapp Family Lodge on points?

Has anyone used points at the Trapp Family Lodge in Vermont? I was wondering what type of room you stayed in and what day of the week you had to check in. Any information appreciated. Thank you.

we stayed at Trapp Family Lodge several years ago (not using points, this was before I joined DVC). Its a really nice hotel and has a special feeling to it; they do a nice job instilling the von Trapp legacy. The lobby/sitting room/restaurant area is very nice; well decorated, nice fursnishings, etc. Lots of socializing going on; there we many nights of sing-alongs there.
We stayed in the main lodge; which I would recommend; its just more convenient to everything. I know they have done more construction/updates in recent years so not sure what your options would be.
The town itself is wonderful' have you ever visted Stowe before ?

Please humor me on this, everytime I see anything about this Lodge it always makes we want to burst into, The Hills Are Alive with the Sound of Music.

Did you feel that way staying there? I am afraid everyone would think I had completely lost my mind.

the von trapp family presence is evrywhere; there's actually one or two of them buried there by some beautiful gardens; there's an old family cabin & chapel in back of the hiking trails and they run a movie about the family in the lodge too.

Of course there'e also a gift shop where you can buy the sound of music books, movies, etc. Its done in a subtle way though; you can choose to ignore it or embrace it. Its not like Disney thats for sure. We liked it becasue of the Von Trapp connection and it is a vey nice resort good restaurant; high up on a hill, scenic views and maybe, just maybe at night, the hills do become alive with the sound of music......
Stowe is a great town for outdoor activities in winter or summertime. And you're not too far away from Burlington & Lake Champlain and very near Ben & Jerry's headquarters, which is a must see.

I've traded to the Trapp Family Lodge via Interval International. Which I guess is what you are doing? If so you won't be staying in the main building. Instead you'll be in the timeshare section which are lovely 4 unit cabins with great views, sleeping accomodations for six and a fireplace. If you go in winter cross country skiing is included in the trade. I don't remember what my check in day was.

The Stowe area is quite pleasant and has good restaurants. The Trapp resort has a couple of restaurants on site. I suggest you run a google on it to get a feel for it. I've never been there in the summer but I've heard its a major summer resort.

Be sure to stop at the Cabot Store on the way in. You can sample all sorts of cheeses made by Cabot. Also the Ben & Jerry's factory tour is near the interstate. The Vermont Teddy Bear company is in Burlington but I never found it.

PS. I forgot. The last time I was there they were gearing up to add more timeshare units ...I don't have a clue what these were going to look like but odds are it would have to be architecturally in keeping with the hotel and existing cabins.

The Vermont Teddy Bear company is in Shelburne, VT, which is two towns south of Burlington. To get there from the Stowe area, you would use the interstate (I-89) and take Exit 13 to Rte 7. Go left (south) onto Rte 7 (this stretch is known as Shelburne Rd) and drive for about 10 minutes. VTB is on the left after you pass through the traffic lights in the center of Shelburne.

Shelburne is also the home of the Shelburne Museum (not a typical, enclosed museum) and Shelburne Farms.

And if you're a fan of chocolate, don't miss Lake Champlain Chocolates in Burlington. We're lucky that Whole Foods carries their chocolates so we don't have to deal with withdrawal!!!
