Has anyone stayed at the Desert Inn & Suites?

I stayed there maybe 6 years ago and about 8 years ago. It's very easy to walk to the entrances, which is the biggest plus. At the time, the rooms were nice and clean, the decor fairly new, etc. Some friends who went about 3 years ago felt that it was looking worn. Both my friends and us had trouble finding parking at the hotel, if we had the car out during the day. The last people in, may not have parking and will have to park at an alternate place down the street, which is annoying. They give you one parking pass per family, even if you get the double suite and have 2 cars. They have a small continental breakfast.

If anyone has been more recently, correct me if I'm wrong. I would stay there again, but other choices come first for my family.

Hi,

We stayed at the Desert Inn in March 2004. My parents had a regular room and my sister's family and my family (husbands and 2 children each) shared a C2 suite. The hotel is definitely not fancy, but it's okay... Just a place to take a bath and go to sleep. The free continental breakfast is very basic (I fed my kids their favorite cereal in the room-I have picky eaters). The parking is very tight and limited and their guest laundry is a very teeny tiny facility that was always crowded. Despite all of these negatives, the fact that the parks were a short walk was a huge benefit! I liked the freedom of being able to walk back and forth from the parks and not having to wait for a shuttle. We liked it enough and will be going back in October because of the convenient walk.

I stayed at the Desert Inn about 7 years ago in a parlor suite and was very please with it. The location was great and from what I remember it was clean, didn't seem to be worn down, and the breakfast was decent since we didn't expect much.

But I stayed again in 2004, this time in a regular room. I was very disappointed. The room was very dark and dirty. The linens needed help. I probably won't be back unless they do some renovating.

I prefer to stay next door at the Carousel Inn. That is my first choice when booking a trip. But they tend to book fast, so I've tried many other properties right along that strip of Harbor. My choices in order are Carousel Inn, BW Park Place Inn, Park Inn, Del Sol, Fairfield, Howard Johnson, Tropicana, Desert Inn.
