just wanted to know if it compared to Disney's Value, Moderate or deluxe resorts.

We've stayed at SOG twice and love the resort. I would compare it to a deluxe. Large rooms and very nice. Can't wait to see the new SOG we'll be there the first week of March if it opens on time.

prior to being leased by the DOD Shades was a Deluxe Resort-the Disney Inn. It was leased to the DOD for use as an ARFC in the late 1980's and purchased by Army Community and Family Services (who own the AFRC's) in I believe 1998. If the current expansion puts it on a par with the Hale Koa it would definately be considered a deluxe resort

I've stayed there twice. The rooms are large and spacious, and clean, but the "Disney" feeling isn't quite there. It's also not quite as conveneient getting around from the resort to the parks. We also found restaurant options quite lacking.

It's certainly a far cry above the WDW value resorts.

I'd put it at a moderate level, even though the rooms are much larger, it doesn't offer many of the amenities of a WDW deluxe, and the lack of Disney theming bumps it down a touch in my book.

Either way, I'm sure you'll enjoy it, and the price just can't be beat!

It's definitely a Deluxe! Besides the fact that it used to be owned by Disney and operated as a Deluxe, it still has Deluxe amenities--valet parking, on-site table service restaurants, bell services, room service, suites, lounge, sports bar, extensive landscaping, multiple pools, hot tub, fitness room, etc....

Also, the rooms here are very large...some of the largest on property. You can't get this much space at a value or moderate. Some rooms have gorgeous view of the Magnolia and Palm golf courses...perfect since it was once themed as the "Golf Resort."

I've stayed there several times, and can't wait for them to reopen so I can see what all they've done! The SOG employees have always been fabulous....we often think they must be sent to Disney's CM school because they are just as accomodating and happy to help!

We've always found SOG to be rather convenient. They had fewer buses than regular resorts...withonly 288 rooms they didn't need as many, but you knew when they were running. Now that they've expanded, I assume the number of buses will, too. Also, if we ever missed a bus or didn't want to wait, we just walked to the Poly and caught the monorail or their bus!

Theming...well, it's not owned by Disney, so it isn't themed Disney. But it is a very nice place to stay!

They don't have concierge service like Disney Deluxe if that's important to you. They also don't have character breakfasts, but neither do AKL or WL...

We stayed at SOG twice and were very disappointed when they weren't open in time for our last trip. We stayed at the Contemporary instead, but we found ourselves wishing we were back at SOG.

We loved the resort, and would definitely compare it to a deluxe. It still felt "Disney" to us, and we never had a problem with transportation. If I had the choice to stay at the Contemporary again or SOG for the same price, I'd pick SOG in a heartbeat. I think you'll really like it!

Have fun :)

My hubby stayed there as a kid with his family and he recalls it as "deluxe." It was the Golf Resort then, and he and his Dad spent a lot of time on the courses. Go to their website (shadesofgreen.org) and check out the great photos. It looks really nice.

We have stayed at Sog three times and have always loved it!! I know others think it lacks some Disney magic, but we found it very relaxing.

We had no trouble with the buses and often walked to the Poly to use the monorail. Even the restaurants were limited, we found that the breakfast buffet (used to be 6.99 for an adult) and the Evergreens Sports bar (great sandwiches and pizza) really made our food dollar stretch. As an added benefit room service from the grill did not cost any extra the times we were there. No one else has such reasonable room service!!! Though I do not believe it was available past 11 pm.

Combined with the size of the rooms, the great CMs, and the country club feel, as well as the comaraderie of the other guests --- well, I felt it was very comparable to a deluxe

We have had 2 trips to SOG, and we are booked again for Dec 04. We loved everything about the resort. We never used the SOG busses because it was nice to start the morning out with the walk over to the Poly for the monorail. It was a ritual for us to take the walk so we could count how many alligators were in the ponds or on the banks.

We stayed at SOG in 1999 and would stay there again! The rooms were very large & had 2 queen beds, sleeper sofa, and a seperate table and chairs area. You can easily sleep 5 people in these rooms. They are very comparative to the Deluxe Resorts.

I can't wait for it to open again! I miss the food at Evergreens (great food, great price). They are suppose to have a few more restaurants when they reopen. I didn't care for the Garden Gallery, but did enjoy the room service from Evergreens.

If you can get in at the rates that are offered - Run - Don't walk to this resort! You can easily catch the monorail by walking over to the Poly! It's a really nice walk and is very peaceful and relaxing.
